Overview
Motorcycle: Midual Française ! (2026)

Discussing French genius without falling into cliché is a challenge. But when a hexagonal workshop produces five examples of a €340,000 motorcycle, with a unique, world-first flat-twin engine oriented in line with the vehicle's axis, one can afford to assume pride without embarrassment. Midual does not seek to compete with the Japanese on sales figures, nor with the Germans on electronic sophistication. The workshop focuses on something else: demonstrating that mechanics can achieve the rank of applied art.
The engine is the starting point of all philosophy. This 1036 cm3 flat-twin, with a 180-degree crankshaft, develops 100 horsepower at 8200 rpm and 102 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. Figures that would make a superbike rider smile, but which are perfectly calibrated here for grand touring use at a calculated cruising speed. The announced top speed of 200 km/h is not a promise of performance, it is simply the natural consequence of a well-built engine. The compression ratio of 12:1, the bore of 100 mm for a stroke of 66 mm, the four valves per cylinder: everything speaks of careful mechanics, designed to last rather than to impress on a specification sheet.
What strikes more than the figures is the finish. The surface of the motorcycle is entirely hand-polished, a job that mobilizes several hundred hours per machine. The double-walled aluminum frame serves as both a load-bearing structure and a fuel tank, and weighs 24 kg once machined. It is born from a 1.7-tonne sand mold, cast in one piece, before being reworked until it obtains a surface that some jewelers could envy. The 43 mm Öhlins FGRT inverted fork and the TTX36 mono-shock absorber, each with 120 mm of travel, handle the chassis. Braking is signed Brembo. On a motorcycle of this standing, one expected no less.

The riding position reveals radically assumed choices. Handlebar-bracelets incline the rider forward in a frank café-racer position. The blue leather saddle, the velvet knee pads marked with the tricolor, the marquetry surrounding the multiple-dial dashboard: it is a concentrate of know-how that recalls more the rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré than the Nevers-Magny-Cours racetrack. And for those looking for electrical wires, hoses, cables: only the clutch cable and brake hose are visible. The rest disappears into the structure, swallowed by an integration that has no equivalent in series production.
No ABS, no traction control, no riding modes, no connectivity. This is not an oversight, it is a position. Midual refuses assistance electronics not out of nostalgia, but because the project does not require it. Five examples will be built, which places the Française in a register where Ferrari Amalfi constitutes the most credible competitor in terms of budget. The question is therefore not whether you can afford it. It is whether you are made for it. This kind of motorcycle is not chosen on an online configurator: it is earned through conviction.
