Overview

With the KTM 450 EXC, the rider always has what it takes to satisfy their desire for sensations and efficiency. It’s an almost mandatory choice when tackling high-level competition. No other brand in off-road motorsports has a comparable track record to KTM. The models of the special Six Days edition pay homage to this success with special performance enhancements and top-of-the-line components. In 2015, the International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) will be held in Slovakia, and the KTM model range has been equipped to handle all the traps that muddy and rocky terrains can present.

Six Days Equipment

- WP Suspension 4CS closed cartridge fork for optimal damping and a large resistance to bottoming out - Camel saddle for optimal comfort on long distances - Skid plate for optimal protection of the frame and engine - Machined anodized orange fork tubes for perfect fork holding and operation - Orange frame - Supersprox Stealth bi-metal rear sprocket with an aluminum inner ring and a steel toothed outer ring for exceptional longevity - Full (non-ventilated/non-drilled) rear brake disc for better thermal resistance and reduced brake pad wear - Floating front brake disc for enduring and consistent braking in extreme conditions - Front brake disc guard for optimal protection against impacts - Lightweight and durable competition mirror - Metzeler tires developed in collaboration with KTM for unparalleled grip and traction - Integral radiator protection - Radiator fan on all 4-stroke models to optimize temperature management in extreme conditions - Carbon fiber expansion tube on all 2-stroke models for effective expansion chamber protection - Anodized anthracite Six Days silencer, with Six Days logo (except on 125 EXC) - Front wheel extractor for quick front wheel removal - Orange radiator grille - Orange chain guide - Exclusive Six Days graphics with a striking design

Starter

The 450 EXC is equipped as standard with a kick but also with an electric starter. The electric starter is well protected at the rear of the cylinder.

Engine

Developed for the engaged practice of enduro, the 449.3 cc SACT engine stands out for its extreme compactness, easy maintenance, exemplary longevity for a minimal weight. Paired with the Keihin EFI system, it offers performance and riding feel particularly suited to enduro.

Engine Management System

The Engine Management System supplied by Keihin, associated with electronic injection and a 42 mm throttle body, ensures immediate response and optimal engine performance. The 196 W oil-cooled alternator is sufficient to power the injection, lighting and all other electrical consumers. Paired with the engine mapping selection control offered as an option in the Power Parts range, the EMS allows the rider to select different engine characteristics. Furthermore, the optional User Tuning Tool allows reading engine data with a laptop and modifying ignition and injector maps simply with a few clicks.

Piston

The lightweight, forged bridged box piston has the same rings as the 450 SX-F.

Cylinder Head

The cylinder head features a single overhead camshaft. This controls two titanium intake valves and two steel exhaust valves. The optimized weight valve actuation allows to reduce friction and improve performance, while also attenuating the engine braking effect.

Crankshaft

The crankshafts, with a 63.4 mm stroke and the ultra-light connecting rods, are manufactured by Pankl from high-strength special steel. The crankshaft is fitted with a smooth connecting rod bearing. Two bearing shells are mounted directly onto the connecting rod. Oil supply to this bearing is ensured by the engine pressure lubrication circuit. This design increases engine life and allows for extended crankshaft maintenance intervals; an advantage for the customer in terms of time, effort and cost.

Balance Shaft

In order to compensate for inertial forces, the engine is equipped with a balance shaft which also drives the water pump.

DDS Clutch

The monoblock clutch housing of the DDS (damped diaphragm steel) is machined from a single block of high-strength steel with the primary transmission pinion. This process guarantees unparalleled reliability, and contributes to the compactness of the engine thanks to its rivetless design and ultra-thin steel coatings. The elastic membrane allows for the use of an additional rubber damping system inside the clutch hub, which ensures transmission reliability and excellent drive. Finally, the Brembo signed hydraulic clutch mechanism associated with this elastic membrane plays an essential role in the progressiveness and operation of the clutch.

Gearbox

The 6-speed gearbox is characterized by a smooth and precise gear change.

Frame

The modern design of the 450 EXC Six Days frame, composed of lightweight and highly resistant chrome-molybdenum steel tubular sections, features maximum longitudinal rigidity combined with optimal torsional rigidity. It ensures great maneuverability and steering precision, as well as excellent stability in riding. Thus, the new frame not only sports a new color; it also represents the benchmark in terms of weight and stability. The frame is the same orange color as that of the factory KTM team competing, making it even more attractive. Thanks to the combination of frame design and the PDS rear suspension system, rear wheel shocks are absorbed and dissipated in an optimal way. The 2016 model is also equipped with a solid frame protection.

Individual Suspension Adjustment

Each EXC model has its own suspension settings, perfectly adapted to the weight and engine output. At the rear, a WP Suspension PDS shock absorber is directly connected to the upper part of the swingarm. KTM machines are equipped as standard with a large number of settings for high and low speed rebound and compression.

Telescopic Fork

The KTM Six Days models are equipped with a 48 mm WP Suspension closed cartridge fork with 4CS technology. Not only is the patented 4CS (4 Chamber System) a benefit in terms of damping responsiveness and performance consistency, but it is also lighter and the oil drain procedure is much simpler than on traditional closed cartridge versions. Of course, the setting can be easily adapted to the track and rider in a few clicks at the knob located on top of the fork: compression adjustment on the left and rebound on the right: another advantage of the 4CS technology.

Fork Tubes

The high-end CNC-machined fork tubes are specifically designed for enduro practice and guarantee steering stability by intervening on the fork flex. Feedback to the front wheel is exceptional, even on the most uneven terrain, increasing safety and passage speeds.

Handlebar

All EXC models are equipped with ultra-resistant profiled aluminum handlebars with a very high tensile strength alloy. The proven design handlebars allow the handlebar to be fixed in four different positions. The new Leonelli-made lighting control is adapted to the requirements of enduro practice. The series-produced, perforated hand guards offer optimal protection for the rider's hands.

Swingarm

The design of the die-cast aluminum swingarm has been the subject of careful calculations and computer simulation. Its design and wall thickness guarantee optimal rigidity while reducing its weight, as well as defined flexibility with the greatest precision.

High-Quality Wheels

All KTM Six Days models are equipped as standard with GIANT wheels made of high-quality and extremely stable 7050 aluminum alloy, featuring the Six Days logo and CNC-machined hubs. The Metzeler tires developed in collaboration with KTM ensure excellent traction, great steering precision and great longevity. Another standard equipment on the Six Days: the Supersprox bi-metal rear sprocket with steel outer ring and aluminum star.

Brakes

KTM off-road models have always been equipped with high-tech Brembo brakes associated with Wave discs, which represent the ultimate solution in braking. These are true references in the enduro category and remain unchanged on the 2016 models.

Fairing

The ergonomics of the KTM 450 EXC Six Days fairing are extremely fine and offer optimal contact between the rider and the machine. It guarantees total freedom of movement.
