Overview
Six days. Forty hours in the saddle. Over a thousand kilometres across terrain that grinds riders and machines into dust. The International Six Days Enduro is not a race — it is a protocol of systematic destruction. And every year, when 500 competitors from 30 countries line up their machines on the grid, one in two bears the Austrian orange. That is not marketing. It is a field statistic that does not lie.

The 350 EXC-F Six Days starts from that premise and goes further than the standard version. The 349 cc single-cylinder engine produces 45 horsepower in a chassis that weighs just 107 kg dry, which immediately places this machine in a different category from its direct E2 competitors. On a Husqvarna FE 350 or a Beta RR 350, the figures are comparable on paper, but the Six Days' standard specification changes things in practice. The triple clamps machined from solid billet and anodised orange, the GIANT 7050 aluminium rims with CNC hubs, the Supersprox bi-material steel and aluminium rear sprocket: all of this comes at a high cost when purchased as aftermarket accessories, and KTM delivers it straight from the factory at €9,835.
What makes this 350 genuinely relevant is the mechanical coherence between engine and chassis. The crankshaft assembly was deliberately weighted up compared to the SX-F motocross version, to smooth power delivery and promote traction through long special stages. The DOHC cylinder head with its four titanium valves revs to 12,000 rpm, but the timing map prioritises low-end response — the range where enduro races are won. The 48 mm WP fork with 4CS technology, sport setting for 2014, handles rocky tracks without losing composure, and compression and rebound adjustments can be made at the top of the legs without reaching for a toolbox. At the rear, the linkage-free PDS system provides a direct connection between the cast aluminium swingarm and the shock absorber — an architecture KTM has defended for years against the linkage-based geometry of its rivals.
The chrome-molybdenum steel frame deserves closer attention. While Husqvarna and TM Racing bet on aluminium, Mattighofen persists with steel, claiming a 500-gram weight saving over the lightest aluminium frames on the market. Debatable in theory, convincing in practice: the chassis absorbs impacts transmitted through the rear wheel with a calibrated flex that disappears on rigid aluminium structures. The 970 mm seat height clearly orients this motorcycle toward experienced, physically fit riders. This is not a beginner's machine, and presenting it as one would be dishonest.
The Keihin EMS with 42 mm throttle bodies manages injection with sharp responsiveness, and the ability to modify the fuel map via a laptop remains a tangible advantage for anyone looking to fine-tune behaviour according to altitude or ground conditions. The electric starter, tucked behind the cylinder, is a practical consideration for long days when the kickstarter becomes a physical ordeal. With its 9-litre tank and reasonable fuel consumption for the segment, the range delivers on its promises across competition special stages. For a rider competing at regional to national level who wants a competition-ready enduro without investing in aftermarket components, the 350 EXC-F Six Days is one of the few offerings on the market that fully justifies its price through the quality of its standard specification.
