Overview

Two hundred units. That's all Sherco will authorize to leave its workshops for this 300 SE Xtrem 2025, and this number is enough to summarize the ambition of the French manufacturer: not to produce a showpiece limited series, but to offer a faithful replica of the competition machines entered at the highest level of world hard enduro.

Sherco 300 SE Xtrem

Behind this radical positioning lies a simple logic. Mario Roman and Teodor Kabakchiev finished respectively third and fourth in the 2024 Hard Enduro World Championship on Factory versions. Last January, at the Alès Trem, they not only won first and second place, but they were also the only finishers on a grid of more than 500 entrants. Mid-March, at the Castagn'Hard, the same scenario. When a motorcycle transforms its riders into the sole survivors of an event where most abandon, it’s no longer a matter of marketing, it’s a matter of pure efficiency.

The heart of the machine is this 293 cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine with a square bore of 72 x 72 mm. An engine designed for flexibility at low rpm and immediate responsiveness in technical sections, where hard enduro is earned centimeter by centimeter. The chrome-molybdenum frame accommodates an inverted 48 mm fork offering 300 mm of travel, paired with a 330 mm single shock. These figures are not anecdotal: in a rock, a wet root or a steep climb, it is this generosity of suspension that makes the difference between progression and a fall. Brembo brakes at both wheels complete a package that compromises on no aspect of component quality. The six-speed gearbox and the 10-liter tank recall that the machine is designed to last under effort, not just to impress when stationary.

What distinguishes the Xtrem from the standard SE is the set of specific parts directly from the Factory equipment, valued at more than 3,500 euros. We are talking about elements that are not purchased as an option on a base motorcycle: they define the level of finish and performance of a competition machine. Priced at 12,990 euros, the 300 SE Xtrem is not aimed at Sunday riders looking for a quiet ride in the forest. It is a motorcycle for those who already know the demands of difficult terrain, who want to progress seriously or who want to have a competitive base without going through the preparation stage.

Facing a KTM 300 EXC or a Husqvarna TE 300, Sherco plays a slightly different part. Where the two Austrians focus on cross-country enduro versatility, the 300 SE Xtrem assumes a more extreme character, more focused in its specialty. It’s not a criticism, it’s a clear editorial choice. The 200 buyers who will take possession of it know what they want. For others, there are less uncompromising motorcycles.
