Overview
Is it still possible to innovate in a segment where every gram of weight and every millisecond of reaction have already been optimized for years? Kawasaki answers with the 2012 KX 250F, and its answer is an engine that speaks with a new voice. The arrival of double injection on a cross single-cylinder is a small revolution, a world first that immediately elevates the machine in the hierarchy of podium contenders. We are not talking about a cosmetic evolution here, but about a tangible power gain, perceptible even by an intermediate-level rider, while retaining the suppleness of the previous generation. This 249 cm³ four-stroke remains a high-end beast, with its internal dome piston and competition-oriented settings, but it also becomes more civilized, with a smoother selection and reinforced reliability. For official teams or experienced riders, the optional KX FI calibration kit even offers the possibility of modifying the mapping and analyzing data, transforming the motorcycle into a true development tool.

This additional power is unleashed into a chassis that is already formidable. The lightweight and extremely rigid aluminum perimeter frame is the heart of a geometry designed to propel the rear wheel rather than compress under acceleration. This is a clear philosophy: to favor the holeshot, that cannon start that can seal a race. High-speed stability, especially in a straight line, is a recognized strength, allowing riders to open the throttle without a second thought. The suspension, with its Showa SFF separated function fork, represents another major asset. By separating the spring and damper in each arm, Kawasaki achieves a smoother action and firmer damping, reducing internal friction. The 2012 settings have been refined to optimize rear grip and resistance to bottoming out, giving a more pronounced firmness feel at the rear without sacrificing comfort.
Facing rivals such as the Honda CRF250R or the Yamaha YZ250F, the 2012 KX 250F stands out with this double injection that gives it an immediate engine advantage. Its weight of 106 kg with full fuel and its 7-liter tank remain within the standards of the segment. Its price of 7399 euros places the machine in the high end, justified by its "factory" level of preparation and its innovations. This is not a motorcycle for beginners or for simple weekend practitioners. It is designed for the track, for the confirmed rider who seeks every advantage to get on the podium. It requires total commitment and a certain level of technical skill to exploit its potential, particularly through the numerous available suspension settings. If its character is less brutal and more exploitable than some, it remains a pure competition machine, heir to a lineage of racers. Kawasaki has managed, with this engine innovation, to give a boost to a technological race that was already very tight.
