Overview

This successful motocross continues to have a strong following. The prevalence of 4-stroke engines doesn't seem to affect it. The current version features an ultra-narrow body that refines its profile, making it one of the most dynamic motorcycles. However, the model represents much more than a simple cosmetic redesign from the previous generation. More powerful braking, revised suspension, lightweight components, and a high-efficiency intake system are just some of its specifications.

Ultra-narrow body and straight silhouette

The two-and-a-half YZ is equipped with an ultra-narrow body, similar to the design used on the YZ 125, and features a straight silhouette that gives the motorcycle an aggressive and assertive look. The fuel tank and radiators reduce the space between the rider's knees and promote mobility, while the compact body offers a feeling of lightness and agility that reinforces the model's athletic character.

Flatter seat

In addition to a narrower body, the YZ 250 benefits from a seat with a flatter upper surface that improves ergonomics and facilitates and accelerates front/rear weight transfer. The rear fender and side covers improve air intake efficiency. The front fender has a cleaner, more dynamic appearance, while the side covers and rear fender have been redesigned to improve air intake efficiency. Larger rear vents are integrated into the side covers, and the underside of the seat and the shape of the top of the rear fender are designed to optimize airflow. The resulting intake efficiency helps improve high-rpm performance. To match the air intake, the big YZ is equipped with an exhaust system whose shape has been revised and the dimensions modified.

Front and rear brakes lighter and more powerful

The 250 YZ features a powerful braking system that offers increased performance and feel while reducing weight. The 270mm front disc has the same diameter as the previous model, but thanks to the installation of a stiffer caliper and larger diameter pistons (25.4mm), the braking system benefits from a 30% larger pad contact area. Increased caliper stiffness and a larger pad area offer exceptional braking power as well as precise feel for fingertip braking. The rear brake has also been improved with the installation of a 240mm diameter disc – 5mm smaller – and a newly designed caliper that offers the same pad contact area and braking performance as the previous model, while saving nearly 100g.

Revised suspension settings

The 48mm KYB SSS fork and the KYB Monocross linkage rear suspension of the YZ 250 are industry benchmarks. Since 2022, factory settings have been revised to further improve low-speed damping characteristics.

Components that contribute to weight reduction

Other, albeit minimal, weight savings have been achieved through the use of a different clutch lever and a new transmission sprocket.
