Overview
The "Roadmaster Classic" is the story of a Roadmaster who was tired of playing a muscle bike competition with the local bison. Especially since the teasing about its number of seats, worthy of the latest mid-range production from PSA, began to tickle its pistons. One joke too many about its 406 kg (dry!) finally awakened its Apache warrior instincts. Trampling the biggest beast in the area, the Roadmaster realized that to make an impression, it had to go bigger. Propelled by the 15.3 kg-ft of torque from its V-Twin Thunderstoke 111, it quickly skinned the poor beast and had the perverse idea of adorning itself, like a trophy, with its scraps previously transformed into imposing saddlebags. Are there still beautiful pieces left? We’ll make a XXL seat pad out of them. The falls? Well, let’s add some nice fringes.
And that’s how the Roadmaster Classic was born. Until proven otherwise…
Indian Motorcycle is therefore presenting a new version of its premium flagship. Adorned with three new color schemes and a full-leather luggage set, the Roadmaster receives a double dose of fringes and becomes the Roadmaster Classic.
In early January 2017, Polaris, owner of Victory and Indian, announced the end of production of the former to focus on the iconic brand with the Sioux headdress. The Roadmaster Classic is therefore the first model from Kings Mountain and the result of this new strategy.
Already lavishly equipped with the Roadmaster, chrome, leather, and torque enthusiasts will be delighted with this ‘Classic’ derivative. Retaining the attributes of the American flagship, the Roadmaster Classic is less flashy. More authentic. And smelling of nostalgia. But be warned. There’s no question of losing its majesty. The motorcycle’s ultra-premium character remains intact, and high-tech equipment still combines with high-quality materials.
This Roadmaster Classic stands out mainly by its luggage, which replaces the plastic with thick, high-quality leather designed to withstand the elements and permanently retain its original appearance. The whole blends perfectly with the new, aged Havana leather seat for a pronounced retro feel, enhanced by numerous chrome rivets. The cargo capacity should hardly suffer since more than 120 liters of gear can be distributed between the saddlebags (30.25 liters each) and the trunk (60.6 liters). The latter is also quite large enough to hold two full-face helmets and proves ideal as a passenger backrest. Its easy-to-remove system will allow you to switch from Touring to Bagger mode in seconds. Ideal for short trips.
The front side fairings of the Roadmaster have disappeared to reveal the highway bars that can optionally be covered in leather. Indeed, if you find that it still lacks fur, you can choose from a multitude of premium leather accessories: handlebar covers and levers, footrest trim, tank bag, rear highway bar saddlebags, and plenty of fringes to add to the saddlebags, fenders, or handlebars.
As standard equipment, just like on the Roadmaster, the traveler will get their money’s worth: ABS, cruise control, 10-level heated grips, independent heated seats, electric windshield, adjustable passenger footrests, keyless start, LED lighting, three 12 V sockets, and of course the Ride Command info-multimedia system and its 17.8 cm screen (the largest on the market), piloting GPS, heating, 100-watt audio system, Bluetooth… and monitoring tire pressure and battery condition and even altitude!
Comfort also has its share of options: passenger armrest, trunk mat and other refinements… All elements allowing to improve the user's driving experience. In addition, the Roadmaster Classic offers a Touring or Flare windshield, lower fairings, a wider genuine leather seat and highway footrests. It is even possible to add a remote garage door opener command.
To emphasize the unique and prestigious character of this Roadmaster Classic, the teardrop-shaped logo, never before used on modern Indian motorcycles, appears on the tank sides.
The Roadmaster loses 14 kg in its ‘Classic’ version (392 kg) and will be available in three colors. A solid black (Thunder Black) and two iconic two-tone colors of the brand: Green and cream (Willow Green over Ivory Cream) and red and cream (Indian Motorcycle Red over Ivory Cream).
To afford this behemoth of the Old West, you will need a wallet just as gargantuan. Count around €30,000, including 5 years of warranty.
