Overview

Just like Harley, Indian knows how to vary the pleasures of touring with large baggers and imposing tourers. The most powerful and dynamic of these is undoubtedly the Pursuit, a huge liner built for endless miles.

But Americans design this type of machine in several demonstrations: imposing and well-equipped; or imposing and well-equipped with luxury. It is with this doctrine that the Pursuit Elite presents itself. With even more qualitative equipment and finish, to cruise like a small yacht.

Absent from the 2024 catalog, it returns this year with more assets, including a "Black Forest Candy with Black Candy, Gold, Titanium and Gloss Black" paint scheme announcing a level of quality and workmanship. It takes 24 hours to apply this forest green and living glitter coating in the dark, with the delicacy of hand-traced gold accents. The dashboard receives a comparable treatment. And what else to say than ‘superb’ about the upholstery. The sofa... pardon, the heated seat and backrest with numerous topstitches are one of the master assets of this machine. The mere sight of this seat instinctively provokes a feeling of comfort.

A slight disappointment, the cylinder heads have lost their bronze finish, which gave this engine an expansive feel (powerful but less contemplative than the Thunderstroke air-cooled engine). However, the power has changed with the new model year. All Indian tourers adopt the PowerPlus 112 engine, with a few cc more, 126 horsepower, and now 181.4 Nm of torque. With it, the Pursuit can count on 18.5 mkg of torque at 3,600 rpm. A considerable amount of force, which will be enjoyed with more “nervousness” than the air-cooled block of the older Chief, Springdielf, Chieftain and Roadmaster. A little less full at low rpm, the block here present only offers its consistency a little later in the rev range but makes up for it with more top-end and watts.

But let's return to the more premium equipment of this Elite. Between the large brake discs, the Brembo M4 calipers and the belt drive are specific “Precision Cut” rims. The motorcycle incorporates a Bosch inertial sensor to improve the sensitivity of the traction control, ABS and torque management in corners. Also, the Pathfinder S Adaptive headlight is also sensitive to the angle. This Pursuit can also adjust its rear Fox damper from the dashboard by electronic adjustment; but only preload. The switches are backlit, more stylish footpegs are ready to welcome your boots, the passenger has armrests; then contact. From there, indecision: taste the crackles and breath of the engine without limits or offer a little rock and pop from time to time?

The premium Indian tourer has thought of everything with 6 speakers scattered from end to end. 600 watts of sound are there to power them. Enough to surpass the noise of the twin and the speed, especially since the amplifiers and the 9-band equalizer will take care to raise the sound according to the speed. So, let’s tune into RTL2, O2 radio, or the smartphone via Bluetooth / USB. The on-board infotainment system manages Apple CarPlay, a GPS system, and one year of Ride Command + offered. All information is displayed on a large 7-inch screen.

Like all Pursuits, the Elite is not stingy with electronics with three Riding Modes, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, keyless luggage start and locking (more than 140 liters of capacity), automatic rear cylinder deactivation, electric windscreen, heated grips, all LED lighting, a 12V port, a radar system with blind spot detection, rear collision warning and approach alert, hill start assist, combined braking... But no electric reverse. It would be practical in certain situations to move this 428-kilo beast.

It also proposes a royal protection, with this large window in front of the snout, a small fairing and a refrigerator front. Let's not forget that the Pursuit claims to be a little sporty with its surprising front frame for a motorcycle in this category (radial Brembo, inverted fork, 320 mm discs). A very, very relative sportiness, when those interested will rather retain the presence and ode to the comfort of this Pursuit Elite.

In a more painful area, it claims the title of the most expensive motorcycle in the Indian range; and by far. A brick more than the Pursuit Limited, already well seasoned. The manufacturer plans a commercialization of 250 units, in all countries combined.
