Overview
Who can claim to have reigned over the luxury touring segment for more than four decades without ever being truly dethroned? The Honda GL 1800 Goldwing Tour DCT Airbag, 2026 model year, continues to chart its course with a confidence that neither the BMW K 1600 GTL, the Indian Roadmaster, nor the Harley Road Glide can seriously shake. At 37,999 euros, you're not buying a motorcycle. You're treating yourself to a two-wheeled ocean liner, a rolling lounge designed to devour continents without ever tiring its occupants. And the DCT version with airbag pushes this philosophy to its absolute limits.

The 1833 cc flat-six remains the beating heart of the affair. Its 126 horsepower at 5500 rpm won't set hearts racing on paper, especially against the K 1600 GTL's 160 hp. But the Goldwing doesn't play that game. Its 169.7 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm tells an entirely different story — one of smooth, creamy thrust available from the mid-range onward, turning every surge of acceleration into a silky glide. The flat boxer architecture, with its four valves per cylinder and square 73 x 73 mm bore/stroke, produces a mechanical smoothness and a muffled tone that no competitor can replicate. That is this machine's signature, far more than any horsepower figure.
The 7-speed dual-clutch DCT transmission deserves closer attention, because it radically changes the riding experience. Honda has refined this third-generation automated transmission so that it integrates seamlessly with the GL's touring vocation. Three operating modes coexist. D mode handles all the gear changes on its own with staggering fluidity. S mode, available in three levels of dynamism, allows higher revs and stronger engine braking. Manual mode also exists, for those who cling to their habits, but let's be honest — on a machine of this size, letting the electronics do the work is simply common sense. The four riding maps — Tour, Sport, Econ, and Rain — simultaneously adjust throttle response, electronic suspension firmness, and clutch strategy. The ISG system, which combines the alternator and starter motor, also delivers an utterly discreet stop-and-start function at red lights.

Now for the elephant in the room. At 393 kg fully fueled, the Goldwing Tour DCT demands respect at a standstill and during tight maneuvers. Honda knows this and offers a "Walking" mode — an electronic creep function that moves the machine at 1.8 km/h forward or 1.2 km/h in reverse, without engaging a gear. It's an invaluable tool in parking lots or at gas stations on a slope. The front end's double-wishbone suspension, a hallmark carried over from the early years of this generation, also helps tame the mass in corners with a stability and precision that the Roadmaster's conventional fork simply cannot match. The seat, set at just 745 mm, reassures average-sized riders despite the tonnage. And the passenger enjoys a reclining backrest, a synthetic suede seat, and an enlarged top case, traveling in a level of comfort that only a premium sedan could claim to rival.

The onboard equipment confirms the standing. A 7-inch color TFT display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, upgraded intercom, integrated GPS, Bluetooth audio system, cruise control, heated grips, electric windshield, standard TPMS, hill start assist, traction control, and above all that frontal airbag that Honda remains the only manufacturer to offer on a production motorcycle. The 21-liter fuel tank may seem modest for a tourer of this caliber, and the 121-liter luggage capacity won't satisfy the most heavily loaded globe-trotters. But the Honda GL 1800 Goldwing Tour DCT isn't aimed at adventure seekers. It targets demanding long-distance riders — those who measure the quality of a journey by the number of kilometers covered without fatigue, not by the number of bags strapped to the seat. For that audience, it remains quite simply without a credible rival.
