Overview

Indian set out to shake up the custom world, the US-style motorcycle, and even its own comfort zone. The approach to a tense road varies depending on the manufacturers, categories, and desires. For Indian, it will be with the FTR 1200. A little mean, a lot roadster, frankly ambiguous and slightly sandblasted, the machine wants to exude the spirit of US Flat-Track.

But... having moved from Flat, we have moved to Street Track to now become a roadster approaching Street Fight. The FTR changed the game with its 17-inch wheels fitted with Metzeler sport tires. To complement this, the frame evolves with a steeper rake angle, suspension reduced from 150 mm to 120 mm of travel, and a seat height lowered to 780 mm.

Underneath, things could heat up with this large twin-cylinder engine. Appreciable in winter, much less at traffic lights in full summer. The FTRs also inherit the rear cylinder deactivation system (at idle).

Its engine, very modern with its 60 mm injection, 4 valves per cylinder, double ACT, liquid cooling, magnesium parts, delivers 123 horsepower and more than 12 mkg of torque. The frame consists of a steel tubular trellis frame, an inverted 43 mm fork, Brembo radial 4-piston brakes, 320 mm discs, and a remote rear shock absorber ensuring the connection with a tubular swingarm as well. The suspensions are fully adjustable. That’s common between the two versions. The S realized that it needed to bring quite a few treats to attract a promising and/or curious audience.

So what's there? More expressive colors, a double Akrapovic silencer, and much more comprehensive electronics. In addition to the cruise control, an inertial unit, stability control and ABS active in corners, traction control, wheelie control, and three riding modes (Sport – Standard – Rain) are installed. The minimalist instrument panel of the standard version is replaced by a 4.3-inch TFT screen integrated with Ride Command. Compatible with Bluetooth and touch-sensitive, it allows you to command a multitude of functions with a finger. A USB port is also noted.

More exclusive, more valued, more enhancing, the FTR 1200 S is also a motorcycle that doesn't let itself be approached by everyone. Unlike the standard version, it cannot be restricted in A2 version.
