Overview
Introduced as a new model in 2011, the Sportster 1200 Custom is actually a more rebellious evolution of the former XL 1200 C. It may have been perceived as having too much nervousness in its front end, as the prow of the Sportster C gained muscle. Inclined at 30°, its 39 mm forks accommodate a smaller front wheel (16’’ instead of 21’’) and a very wide tire section (from 100, it swells to 130 mm), giving it a more stocky appearance. More style is also present with a “pull-back” handlebar, mounted on a riser and tilted rearward.
Better suspensions appeared in 2016. The forks feature a new cartridge and a 3-setting damper. The emulsion rear shocks can be adjusted for preload. The redesigned seat should improve the rider’s daily comfort.
2014 was also a year of evolution. In addition to various improvements (electrical system, exhaust, oil tank, controls, keyless start HD Smart), the Sportster announced a notable gain in its braking capabilities. To this end, it was equipped with ABS as standard, a new aluminum master cylinder, new brake calipers, and a 300 mm front brake disc.
Beneath its decidedly classic appearance, the rear light is actually made up of 3 rows of LEDs. The front optic is topped with a small visor of the finest effect. Some polished parts, chrome, and the iconic 1200 engine. Less torque than the big 96 ci, but no less interesting, this engine distills the essentials: character. At a little over €12,000, the 1200 C still gives you pause.
