Overview
There are names that are legends, and the name of the Honda CBR 600 F is one of them. But what remains of a legend when it is resurrected fifteen years later? In 2011, Honda attempted to revive this accessible sportbike, the one that trained a whole generation of riders before the mania for lap times and RR models took over. The result is a machine that speaks more to the heart than to the record book, an ambiguous object that is as confusing as it is seductive.

Look at it. Its multi-layered fairing, signed by the Honda Rome design studio, is sporty without being aggressive. But beneath this robe, the soul is different. It quickly becomes apparent that this 2011 CBR 600 F is actually a Hornet in disguise, with its Monobackbone aluminum frame replacing the traditional perimeter double beam. For some purists, this is sacrilege. For others, it is simply the pragmatic adaptation of a solid base to a new role. The engine confirms this duality: it is a four-cylinder derived from the 2007 CBR 600 RR, but calmed, reduced to 100 horsepower at 12,000 rpm. The power is there, but the mapping is more roadster, less exclusive. It doesn’t live at 15,000 rpm; it breathes and offers its torque of 64.7 Nm with more generosity. This is the definition of a usable sportbike, the one you can find today on used sites like Le Bon Coin, and which remains a serious option for A2 training thanks to its less extreme character.
On the road, this philosophy translates into a less radical geometry, a wheelbase of 1386 mm that favors stability, and raised clip-on handlebars to relieve the back and wrists. The 800 mm seat height is reasonable, and there is even a little space under the seat for a U-lock. The 41 mm inverted fork and the mono-shock are configured for the road, not for the track. The braking system, with its 296 mm discs and two-piston calipers, may seem dated compared to the radial-mount calipers of the RR models, but it is effective and corresponds to the spirit of the machine. The C-ABS option, with its three-piston calipers, was even available, a welcome safety feature for a motorcycle designed for everyday use. Compared to a Yamaha Thundercat from the 90s or the pure sportbikes of the early 2000s, this CBR 600 F represents a return to comfort and versatility.
The target audience is clear: the rider who wants a sportbike without the excesses, the one who is looking for a used Honda CBR 600 F for daily commutes, trips, or simply to learn to ride sport without getting hurt. It is not meant to dominate a chronomania forum, but to be used. Its price of 8490 euros at the time was an argument, and today, its value lies in this rediscovered accessibility. It doesn’t set new records; it rehabilitates a simple idea: a sportbike can be civilized, comfortable, and enjoyable without needing to scream at every turn. In this respect, the 2011 CBR 600 F, like its ancestors from 1998, 2000, or 2002, remains an intelligent proposition in a world that is often too noisy.
