Overview
When a manufacturer decides to celebrate its return to the MotoGP grid, a press release simply won't do. Suzuki Belgium chose to mark the occasion by dressing its 2014 GSX-R 600 in the colors of the prototype set to rejoin the Grand Prix circuits the following year. An exclusive livery, decals applied beneath the clearcoat to ensure longevity, and just like that, a production sportbike is transformed into an object of desire for fans of the Hamamatsu brand. All priced at €11,990, a slight premium over the standard version justified mainly by the machine's collector appeal.

Beneath this gala dress lies the well-known mechanicals of the Gixxer 600. The 599 cc inline four-cylinder produces 126 horsepower at 13,500 rpm and 69.6 Nm of torque peaking at 11,500 rpm. Figures that place it squarely in the pack within its class, without quite dominating a Honda CBR 600 RR or Yamaha YZF-R6 on paper. The engine demands revs to deliver its full potential, with a 12.9:1 compression ratio and an ultra-short bore-and-stroke of 67 x 42.5 mm that betray its screamer vocation. Lightweight forged pistons and camshafts calibrated for stratospheric rpm ranges confirm the competition heritage Suzuki proudly claims.
The aluminum twin-spar frame houses a 41 mm Showa BPF inverted fork, a big-piston technology borrowed directly from the paddock. The benefits are felt on corner entry and under hard braking, where a conventional fork would show its limits. At the rear, a single shock offers 112 mm of travel, identical to the front. Braking relies on twin 310 mm discs gripped by radial-mount four-piston calipers up front, complemented by a single 220 mm disc at the rear. The package proves well-balanced for a sportbike of this displacement, even though Japanese rivals offer comparable equipment at equivalent pricing.
At 187 kg wet and with a 17-liter fuel tank, the GSX-R 600 remains an agile machine, built for the rider seeking an accessible track toy without giving up the occasional road ride. The 810 mm seat height won't intimidate average-sized riders, and the tire fitment of 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear provides a solid compromise between steering precision and stability. The dashboard combines a perfectly legible analog tachometer with a digital screen grouping a lap timer, programmable shift light, and ride information. A comprehensive setup that keeps your eyes on the track rather than hunting for data.
This MotoGP Replica edition is aimed first and foremost at Suzuki enthusiasts and collectors who want a 600 cc sportbike with an extra dose of visual soul. On the technical side, nothing sets this version apart from the standard GSX-R 600, and that is perhaps its only real shortcoming. Facing a rapidly evolving competitive landscape in 2014, the Gixxer played the consistency card rather than the revolution card. An honest strategy, carried here by a livery that reminds us Suzuki never truly left the race.
