Overview
So, what remains of the true Sportster in this Harley-Davidson Sportster 1250 S? The answer is simple: the name, and not much else. The MoCo has made a radical decision for 2026, and they are owning it. The small air-cooled twin, the cradle frame, and the timeless retro aesthetic are gone. In their place is a machine resolutely looking towards the future, with the Revolution Max engine as its centerpiece. This 60° V-twin, liquid-cooled engine is no gentle rumble. With 121 horsepower at 7500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm, it literally blows its ancestors out of the water. It’s even more powerful than some 1800 cm³ M8s, even if the latter retain the title for low-end torque. For a Harley, seeing the power peak so high is a cultural shock, but it’s the price to pay to enter the realm of modern roadsters.

The chassis follows this logic of a clean break. The engine serves as a stressed member, allowing for a minimalist frame and a contained dry weight of 221 kg. A light weight for an American, almost provocative. Handling benefits from 43 mm Showa inverted forks and a single rear shock absorber, equipment that would have made purists scream a decade ago. The riding position, however, remains faithful to a certain rebellious spirit: low handlebars, feet forward, a seat 765 mm from the ground. It’s aggressive, engaging, and sends a clear message. This is no longer a machine for beginners or for carefree city riding. With an 11.7-liter tank and a price approaching 16350 euros, the entry ticket is expensive. This will answer the question "what is the price of a Harley-Davidson Sportster 1250 S?": it’s the price of a high-end technological motorcycle.
Speaking of technology, this is where the gap definitively widens with the Sportsters of yesteryear. The 4-inch TFT screen is the control center of a suite of rider aids unimaginable just a short time ago. Cornering ABS, traction control sensitive to lean angle, anti-wheelie, cruise control, and five riding modes, two of which are customizable. The motorcycle is even pre-wired for Harley-Davidson Sportster 1250 S accessories such as heated grips. It’s a complete, almost intimidating, offering that propels the range into the 21st century. For the demanding touring rider or the occasional track rider seeking a unique character, this is a significant argument.

Yet, some technical choices raise questions. A single 320 mm front brake disc, even with a 4-piston Brembo radial caliper, seems just enough to control 121 horsepower and over 220 kg in motion. This is a point where the competition, like a Ducati Monster or a Triumph Speed Triple, is often more generous. Similarly, the limited range due to the small tank recalls that we haven’t completely broken with a certain custom logic. It’s not a machine for long raids without worrying about gas stations. Its playground is the winding road, dynamic outings where you can exploit its temperamental engine and nimble chassis.

So, who is the customer of this Sportster 1250 S? Certainly not the novice looking for an entry-level 883. It’s an experienced rider, already initiated into the world of Harley or coming from elsewhere, who wants the brand’s character and style without compromising on performance and equipment. It’s a machine that has little in common with the specification sheets of the old Harley-Davidson Sportsters. It charts its own course, even if it confuses some. It’s powerful, technological, and above all, it has nothing left to prove to anyone. Except perhaps to show that Milwaukee knows, when it decides, how to shake up its own traditions with flair. For those who are seduced by this evolution, the used market for the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1250 S 2024 or previous models could become interesting, because this generation marks a turning point whose value is likely to last.
