Overview

When Ducati decides to twist the arm of its own mythology, it creates a trail that breaks with thirty years of heritage in a single model. The Ducati Multistrada V4 2024 retains only the general silhouette and the first name from the past. Everything else has been redesigned from the fasteners to the frame. The historic steel trellis is gone, replaced by a monocoque aluminum structure inherited from the Superbike. The monocoque swingarm, straight and molded from the same aesthetic as the Panigale, is gone. Above all, the desmodromic distribution, that fetish mechanism that purists brandished like a flag, is gone. For twin enthusiasts, the mourning will be long.

Ducati Multistrada V4

The 1158 cm3 V4 Granturismo engine now sits at the heart of the machine, and it imposes its own rules. Its four 90-degree L-cylinder engines develop 170 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, 12 more than the previous 1262 DVT twin. Facing the BMW S 1000 XR, the gap narrows to five horsepower in favor of the Italian. Peak torque is 124.5 Nm at 8,750 rpm, slightly less than the Streetfighter V4 roadster, but delivered with a better progressive feel for long stages. The 83 mm bore and 53.5 mm stroke give the engine a resolutely short and rotational character, closer to the track than to dirt roads. Two practical details deserve attention: oil changes are only required every 15,000 kilometers, and valve checks every 60,000 km. Owners of the previous generation will appreciate the difference. Another feature shared with the Streetfighter V4, the rear cylinders cut out at idle to limit heat transmitted to the rider and reduce consumption.

The chassis follows the same logic of rupture. The 50 mm inverted fork offers 170 mm of travel, the mono-shock ensures 180 mm at the rear, which remains consistent for a road trail. The front wheel goes to 19 inches, the rear tire is limited to 170 mm wide, which clearly orients the Ducati Multistrada V4 towards asphalt with occasional forays onto stabilized tracks. To go further off-asphalt, spoked wheels and knobby tires remain optional on the S version, from which the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally also derives. Braking is entrusted to Brembo, with two 320 mm front discs and a 265 mm rear disc, all managed by a three-level Cornering ABS. On 240 kg when fully fueled, it’s the bare minimum.

Ducati Multistrada V4

Electronics constitute the central argument of the new Ducati Multistrada V4 technical specifications. Four riding modes pilot the entire package: Sport releases the 170 horsepower without too much restriction of the aids, Touring softens the power curve and strengthens the interventions, Urban limits to 115 horsepower for the city, Enduro also reduces to 115 horsepower but loosens the rear wheel ABS grip to allow for freer riding. The IMU inertial sensor supervises traction control on eight levels, wheelie control on eight levels, and Cornering ABS with anti-stoppie function. However, radar for adaptive cruise control is not on the menu for this base version. You will need to direct your budget towards the Multistrada V4 S or S Sport to benefit from it, with the added bonus of piloted suspensions and integrated navigation. The Ducati Multistrada V4 price is set at 20,490 euros, which positions it clearly above German competition but below what a Pikes Peak demands.

Ducati Multistrada V4

This trail is aimed at the long-distance rider who wants to ride fast, far, and sometimes a little off the paved road without deluding themselves about its off-road capabilities. The 22-liter tank ensures serious range, the adjustable saddle between 840 and 860 mm suits a wide morphology, and the luggage rack attachment points make travel a credible option. What the machine still does not offer as standard is a center stand, a recurring omission that annoys on a tool intended to serve for loading luggage on the side of the road. By consulting Ducati Multistrada V4 test forums or Ducati Multistrada V4 classified ads, the demand for Ducati Multistrada V4 accessories such as a center stand remains the most frequent. Ducati has transformed its Multistrada into a high-tech machine; it just needs to take care of the small details of everyday life.
