Overview
Who would have bet, twenty years ago, that Ducati, this temple of the sporty V-twin and track racing, would find its mainstream salvation in a trail bike? The Multistrada, this two-wheeled chameleon, has ultimately established itself as an essential pillar. And to enter this now vast family, you must pass through the door of the V2. No revolution here, but a sensible evolution that targets a specific rider: one who seeks the Ducati essence in a more accessible and less voracious package than the demonic V4.

Let's be frank, the V2 is a 950 dressed up for winter. The design remains faithful, refusing to mimic the aggressive lines of its big sister. The evolution is beneath the surface. The bulk of the work? To lighten the beast. By tinkering with the rims, the clutch, and a few engine components, engineers have shed five kilograms from the whole. It doesn't seem like much, but on a 222 kg trail bike fully fueled, every gram counts for maneuverability. The heart remains the 937 cm3 L-twin cylinder, a true delight of suppleness and character. Its 113 horsepower at 9000 rpm and 96 Nm of torque are dosed just right: biting enough to make you smile on exit from a corner, but never intimidating. We are at the antipodes of the furious madness of the V4 and its 170 horsepower, and that’s just fine.
Ducati winks at young license holders with a bridable A2 version. A marketing gesture more than a real target, let’s admit it. At nearly 15,000 euros, we are far from the first learning trail bike. The money is rather invested in serious equipment: Brembo radial brakes, fully adjustable suspensions, and basic Ducati electronics with four riding modes and cornering ABS. The color TFT screen remains the preserve of the S version, but the essentials are there. The real progress is hidden in the ergonomics: redesigned saddle at 83 cm, lowered footrests, everything has been thought for long hours in the saddle. With its 20-liter tank, this Italian has ambitions of a great traveler.
So, who is it for? For the demanding globetrotter who wants character without excess, for the lover of beautiful mechanics who finds Japanese trails a little bland. It positions itself as a premium alternative to a more aseptic BMW F 900 XR, or a more adventurous Triumph Tiger 900. The Multistrada V2 does not seek to be the most versatile or the most radical. It cultivates its identity, a blend of latent sportiness and refinement in everyday life. It’s not a bike that shouts, it simply whispers all the pleasure of a great Ducati, in a more affordable way. And sometimes, a whisper is more persuasive than a shout.
