Overview
Imagine a café racer that swallowed a 90s sportbike, all dressed in a deceptive retro elegance. The Kawasaki Z 900 RS Performance is exactly that: a tribute to the legendary Z1 that doesn't just play a cameo role. With its inline four-cylinder engine of 948 cm3, it delivers 111 horsepower at 8500 rpm and generous torque of 98 Nm from 6500 rpm. These figures, when weighed against its 215 kg in running order, clearly announce the color: this is far from a simple cruiser.

So, what are the performances of the Kawasaki Z 900 RS Performance? The engine responds with exemplary smoothness and linearity. It pulls strongly from low revs to the redline, offering supple but determined propulsion, much more refined than the pugnacious character of the standard Z 900. The real magic of this Performance edition lies in its original titanium Akrapovic exhaust. It's not for the sake of a symbolic horsepower gain, but for that deep and profound sound that transforms every acceleration into a mechanical concert. That’s where the revival-boy smiles: the style is impeccable, and the sound is just as much so.
However, at €13,249, the bill stings a little. The pack adds, in addition to the Akra, engine protectors and a tank protector, but it remains based on an expensive model. Faced with a Triumph Street Twin or a Yamaha XSR900, the Kawasaki plays the card of mechanical purity and heritage, but it is less versatile than the Yamaha and less accessible than the Triumph. The radial front braking is effective, the 41 mm inverted fork ensures good stability, but the sporty rider will regret the lack of suspension adjustability when facing really aggressive riding.
Ultimately, this Z 900 RS Performance is for the connoisseur, for those for whom emotion takes precedence over the technical specifications. It is a machine for lovers of beautiful mechanics, capable of brisk rides without being a track beast. It carries its heritage with panache, but requires its rider to accept its compromise: a high price for a unique sensory experience, where the pleasure of the eyes and ears sometimes justifies putting reason in the garage.
