Overview
Let’s not beat around the bush: at €16,390, the price of the Ducati Multistrada V2 890 (2025) is bound to be a question. For this budget, one is entitled to expect a complete machine, ready for anything, and above all, faithful to the spirit of the brand. So, does this new iteration of the Bolognese twin-cylinder trail live up to its promises, or has it traded its soul for a Euro 5+ standards compliance booklet? The assessment is nuanced.

Let’s admit it, the first shock is mechanical. Farewell to the mythical trellis frame and the characteristic Desmo sound, replaced by a more modern architecture. The new 890 cm3 L-twin, already proven on the Panigale and the Streetfighter, arrives here with 115 horsepower and 92 Nm of torque. On paper, this is light compared to some competitors like the BMW F 900 XR, but Ducati is playing the finesse card. The real revolution lies in its variable distribution, which spreads three-quarters of the maximum torque over a plateau from 3500 to 11000 rpm, promising unprecedented smoothness for a sporty trail. The lighter and more compact engine block is accompanied by an aluminum monocoque frame which contributes to a strict diet, limiting it to 199 kg fully fueled. A significant argument compared to rivals often heavier.
On board, the Multistrada V2 embraces its status as a high-end machine. The 830 mm saddle, now adjustable, and the revised ergonomics aim for the comfort of the touring rider. The dashboard is finally worthy of the name with its 5-inch TFT screen as standard, far from the small backlit screens of yesteryear. The electronics are abundant: cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control, five riding modes including a new one dedicated to wet conditions, and even cruise control. It’s complete, almost too much. One is just surprised that heated grips remain an option on a motorcycle at this price and with this touring vocation. A detail that stings.

Who is this Multistrada for? Clearly, it targets the demanding touring rider who prioritizes agility and character over brute power. It doesn't have the overwhelming power of a V4, nor the low torque of large opposing twins, but it offers a cocktail of efficiency and very current technology. It is more civilized, more versatile, and probably more accessible daily than its predecessor. But at this price, it must be flawless. The bet is risky, but typically Ducati: evolving by disrupting traditions, even if it means displeasing purists. Time will tell if this transformation appeals to sporty trail customers.
