Overview

When BMW released the R nineT, the Bavarian brand reset the clock to an era it had never truly left. The retro-inspired roadster immediately found its audience, spawning a substantial progeny: Scrambler, Racer, Urban G/S. Then came the BMW R nineT Pure, a stripped-down version devoid of superfluous features, designed for those who want to enter the Heritage family without completely emptying their bank account. At €13,000, it positions itself as the least expensive entry point in the range, and this focus on accessibility is embraced to the very end.

BMW R nineT Pure

Let's be honest about what the Pure sacrifices compared to the reference NineT. The inverted fork disappears in favor of a conventional 43 mm telehydraulic fork, radial calipers give way to axial calipers, the aluminum tank becomes steel, the dual exhaust becomes a single one. This is not insignificant. Anyone who compares the two machines side by side immediately perceives the downgrade. But here's the paradox of the BMW R nineT Pure: this stripping away is also an invitation. The black-painted trellis frame, the Paralever monobras in the same tone, the matching fork tubes, the engine itself dressed in black down to the cylinders, only the granite gray cylinder heads break up the ensemble. The result is coherent, almost austere, and frankly seductive for those seeking a solid base on which to build something personal.

The heart of the machine, however, doesn't change by a piston. The 1,170 cm3 flat-twin, with a bore of 101 mm and a stroke of 73 mm, develops 110 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and a torque of 115.7 Nm at 6,000 rpm. These figures raise the question that many ask, how many horsepower does the BMW R nineT Pure have, and the answer remains flattering despite the Euro 4 compliance. The flat-twin delivers on its promises in practice, lively out of corners, growling at low revs, with that characteristic sonic and vibrational signature of BMW boxers that is an integral part of the pleasure. The 6-speed gearbox and shaft drive are, without surprise or fault. For candidates for the A2 license, the Pure exists in a version restricted to 70 kW, and after two years of practice with validation of the supplementary training allowing the gateway from the A2 license to the A license, the rider of the BMW R nineT Pure A2 can de-restrict his motorcycle which will then total a power of 70 kW, or 95 hp in the intermediate configuration.

In terms of dynamics, the Pure displays 219 kg fully fueled for a seat height of 805 mm. The slightly extended wheelbase compared to the standard NineT brings welcome stability on open roads, without weighing down transitions. The standard fork absorbs correctly, the Paralever rear unit performs its role without particular genius but without fault either. The braking system with two 320 mm front discs with 4-piston calipers and a 265 mm rear disc proves sufficient for a machine limited to 200 km/h. ABS is standard, the traction control ASC remains an option, which is the only point where BMW charges for safety electronics on a motorcycle of this price.

The BMW R nineT Pure is aimed at a specific profile: the enthusiast who wants a solid and recognized mechanical base, a defined style, and the freedom to personalize according to his tastes rather than paying for equipment he hasn't chosen. The BMW accessories catalog is substantial, exposed-welded aluminum tank, seat cowl, bracelet handlebars, solo seat, so many elements that allow you to sculpt the motorcycle in your image. On the used market, the BMW R nineT Pure represents a stable value and an active market, which is not insignificant for those who also reason in terms of resale. Less refined than its big sister, it is also less intimidating, more malleable, and ultimately more honest in its price-pleasure ratio.
