Ducati 1199 Panigale S 2014 — Specifications

The name Ayrton Senna is familiar to all, evoking an icon of Formula 1. Some will remember his tragic death, many will praise his exceptional career and the mark he will forever leave on the world of F1. Ducati is also inscribed in this memory, for other reasons. The Castiglioni brothers, owners of the Bologna-based brand in the mid-80s and 90s, had forged friendships with the Brazilian driver, and several limited series of 916 were created in his honor. It was Ayrton who chose the specific gray color when he visited the Borgo Panigale factory in 1994. Senna disappeared a few weeks later, but his S would henceforth be etched into the brand's history.

300 Ducati 916 SP in honor of Ayrton Senna were released in 1995, followed in 97 by Senna II and then by Senna III in 98. Collectors are clamoring for these models with the iconic name. Some may now be able to complete their collections with this new limited series of Ducati: the 1199 Panigale S Senna edition. Retaining the look of the 916 series of yesteryear, the 1199 is particularly expressive in this excited gray paintwork accented by red rims. A few touches of gold recall one of the specific features of this Panigale S: electronically adjustable Öhlins suspension. An emotion runs through the fairing with the famous S in every turn followed by the name of the triple world champion. Note that the machine will be equipped with a racing exhaust and a special plaque on the fork tube indicating its number in the series.

This exclusive and decidedly nationalized Ducati 1199 Panigale S Senna will only be sold in Brazil, Ayrton’s homeland, and in a limited number of 161 units; that is, the number of his Grand Prix starts. This exceptional Superbike will be available in June 2014, 20 years after the death of the namesake driver.
