Overview
One hundred examples. No more. KTM understood that the RC8 R didn't need a large production run to make an impression; it needed a partner capable of pushing it to its limits. Akrapovic, a Slovenian manufacturer who has become essential in the world of high-performance exhaust systems, came to sign this limited edition with its finest titanium work.

It’s not just a matter of decoration. The scorpion screened on the fairing sides isn't there just to look good; it announces the color: this RC8 R has been prepared to bite harder. The Club Race kit delivered with the motorcycle contains a titanium Evo4 exhaust line, a racing air filter, optimized cylinder head gaskets, and a dedicated mapping. As a result, the 1195 cm3 V-twin climbs from 170 to 180 horsepower, while the weight is reduced by 7.5 kilograms in the process. At 182 kg dry weight for 180 horsepower, the power-to-weight ratio exceeds that of many Japanese sportbikes of the time, and the torque of 123 Nm at 8000 rpm recalls that this twin has concrete arguments in its toolbox.
The chromoly steel trellis frame, an architectural signature of the Austrian house, envelops this engine with a torsional rigidity designed for the track. Around it, KTM has not skimped on the list of racing components: forged Marchesini wheels, four-piston radial Brembo calipers, 43 mm WP inverted fork with TiN treatment on the tubes, adjustable WP shock absorber in compression and rebound, Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tires. It’s the armament of a homologated superbike, not a showroom sportbike.
Faced with a Ducati 1098 R or a BMW S1000RR that was emerging at the same time, the RC8 R Akrapovic plays a different card: it assumes its sharp, almost exclusive character, where the Japanese focus on versatility and the Italians cultivate sonic emotion. The 805 mm seat height and engaged ergonomics clearly make it a machine for experienced riders, accustomed to working the trajectory and exploiting a nervous chassis. The Sunday stroller will pass by, it’s not a criticism, it’s simply that some tools are not for everyone.
At 18,000 euros, this numbered edition targeted a specific audience: the occasional track rider wanting to ride legally during the week and set times on the weekend, the collector who knows that a series of one hundred units does not lose value, or simply those who could not stand the idea that an Austrian sportbike remained in the shadow of the large-displacement Japanese bikes. Fifteen years after its release, the RC8 R Akrapovic Limited Edition remains one of the most direct expressions of what KTM knew how to do when the brand decided not to concede anything to compromise.
