Overview

Imagine a Munich engineer who decides one morning to build his interpretation of the American bagger, but with the methodical rigor of a Bavarian watchmaker. The result is the BMW K 1600 B: a 343-kilogram behemoth that runs on a cardan drive, powered by a 1649 cm³ inline six-cylinder engine, and claims 160 horsepower at 6750 rpm with a torque of 179.9 Nm available from 5250 rpm. On paper, it's the curriculum vitae of a Germanic touring machine that has decided to wear cowboy boots.

BMW K 1600 B

The 2025 version of this BMW Motorrad touring machine passes the Euro 5+ emissions standard without losing power, which is almost a regulatory feat. Engineers have refined engine management via the BMS-O control unit, added additional knock sensors, and optimized the lambda probes. Torque has increased by a few Newton-meters compared to previous generations, and the engine revs more crisply. Who would complain? The new generation Dynamic ESA adapts the suspension in real time, both to the rider's load and to road conditions. Load compensation is fully automatic: you put your luggage on, get on the saddle, and the motorcycle adjusts. The MSR system, for its part, monitors the rear wheel during downshifts to prevent any sudden lockups. On a machine of this size, these assists are not a luxury, they are a matter of active safety.

The front end concentrates the majority of the visible evolutions. The Full LED headlight adopts a new light signature and, above all, a directional light that pivots up to two degrees depending on the lean angle. It's not revolutionary in the premium segment, but it's effective and works at night on winding roads. The Welcome Light function briefly illuminates the headlight at startup, which is a gadget but pleasant. Behind the short bubble typical of the model, the 10.25-inch TFT screen stands like a car dashboard. Navigation, connectivity, route planning: the BMW K 1600 B plays in the league of high-end equipment. We will nevertheless regret that the audio system is not included as standard at this price. Paying 26,890 euros for a motorcycle and having to tick a box to have music is a questionable commercial choice for BMW Motorrad.

On the road, the 750 mm seat height remains accessible for an average build, and the 26.5-liter tank allows for long stages with a consumption announced at 5.7 liters per hundred kilometers. The maximum speed of 193 km/h is not its preferred terrain: the BMW K 1600 B 2025 is designed for comfortable miles, not for lap times. The cardan drive eliminates chain maintenance, which is perfect for this type of use.

BMW K 1600 B

The real debate takes place at 26,890 euros against the competition. The Honda Gold Wing in bagger version is around the same prices and offers a flat-six engine of remarkable smoothness. The Harley-Davidson Street Glide and Road Glide, as well as the Indian Challenger, display even higher prices and an American DNA that has nothing to do with German neutrality. The choice between these machines goes beyond the simple technical specifications: it is a question of driving philosophy. The BMW K 1600 B forum has been discussing it for years, opinions are divided according to camps. Those looking for a used BMW K 1600 B often fare better financially, the 2018, 2020 or 2021 models offering a similar size for a lower budget.

BMW K 1600 B

This Germanic bagger is aimed at the experienced grand tourer who wants the cruiser style without sacrificing European technology. It is a coherent, technically accomplished proposition, even if the new price of the BMW K 1600 B 2025 requires a solid wallet and a few compromises on options.
