Overview
Look her in the eye. This front headlight has the face of an urban predator, all angles and intentions. The BMW F 900 R doesn’t seek to please everyone, it seeks to convince the right ones. Those who want a versatile roadster without sacrificing the ability to carve through a curve, those who grew up with the F 800 R and found it lacked bite. BMW heard their response.

Under the skin, the 895 cm³ parallel twin is a serious evolution. Engineers borrowed the engine architecture from the 850 GS, increased the bore to 86 mm for a stroke of 77 mm, phased the crankshaft pins by 90 degrees for better vibration balance, and increased the compression ratio to 13.1:1. The result, 105 horsepower at 8500 rpm and 92.2 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm, places the BMW F 900 R technical specifications in an interesting intermediate zone. It outperforms the Aprilia Shiver 900, seriously approaches the Yamaha MT-09, Triumph Street Triple and Kawasaki Z 900, without surpassing them. It’s a deliberate choice: we don’t chase numbers, we seek consistency. The 6-speed gearbox receives an anti-backlash clutch, which concretely improves heavy downshifts.
The chassis adheres to the same logic. The steel tubular frame, inherited from the F 850 GS and adapted with a few CAD tweaks, uses the engine as a stressed member. The 43 mm inverted fork with 135 mm of travel works without available adjustments, which may frustrate demanding riders. The rear monoshock, however, offers adjustable preload and rebound over 142 mm of travel. The riding position moves a notch forward compared to the previous generation, with an advanced handlebar and raised footpegs. At 211 kg fully fueled for a seat at 815 mm, the BMW Motorrad sport motorcycle BMW F 900 R remains manageable, but it carries about twenty kilograms more than an MT-09. This is the downside of increased equipment.

And there’s plenty of equipment. The 6.5-inch color TFT screen with Multi Controller ring control positions the BMW F 900 R 2024 well above its direct competitors in this regard. Rain and Road modes are standard, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes are optional, as is ABS Pro, traction control DTC, engine brake management MSR and the bidirectional shifter. An IMU inertial sensor is available in the high-end pack. The bill can climb quickly; this is the only real criticism to make about a catalog price already positioned at 9,490 euros. On the braking side, two radial Brembo four-piston calipers bite 320 mm discs at the front; the rear is content with a single piston on 265 mm.

For A2 license holders, a version restricted to 95 horsepower is planned, without the possibility of subsequent de-restriction, which clearly addresses the question of the BMW F 900 R A2. This is the policy of the house. The BMW F 900 R 2024 is primarily aimed at the experienced rider who wants a daily motorcycle capable of enthusiastic weekends, without the physical constraints of hypersportives or the softness of tourers. It’s not the lightest, not the most powerful, not the cheapest. But it builds a solid argument on assembly quality, electronic richness and a mechanical personality that becomes clearer with every kilometer.
