Overview

When BMW declines its GS range, it plays on several octaves. From 310 to 1300, each displacement targets a specific rider profile. But the Adventure badge is not attached to just any machine: it demands a generous tank, true protection, and suspension capable of handling more than just the asphalt of national roads. In 2024, only two GS models truly qualify. The R 1250 GSA, a 1254 cm3 behemoth that approaches 20,000 euros starting price, and this F 900 GS Adventure, positioned as the accessible alternative for those intimidated by the large road trail, both in size and price.

BMW F 900 GS Adventure

For 2024, the parallel-twin engine gains 2 mm of bore and goes to 895 cm3, adopting the block from the F 900 R and XR models. The resulting figures are striking: 105 horsepower at 8,500 rpm, ten more than the previous generation, for a torque of 93.2 Nm available from 6,750 rpm. On paper, the torque gain seems modest for 42 cm3 of additional displacement, but BMW emphasizes a more linear, more usable curve in everyday use. This is precisely what a loaded touring rider needs, not a nervous peak that destabilizes the luggage in a mountain curve. The six-speed gearbox has also been reworked, and it shows from the first few minutes of use. The shifter remains an option, like many things on this machine.

Compared to the F 900 GS, completely redesigned this year, the Adventure model looks like a reasonable conservative. It retains most of the bodywork from the F 850 GS Adventure, with only the side panels revised, making them more compact. A direct consequence: it does not benefit from the radical weight reduction of its little sister, nor from the lighter swingarm, nor from the Akrapovic silencer as standard. BMW has still managed to shave off two kilos on the scale, bringing the weight fully fueled to 246 kg. It’s not light, and the 875 mm seat height will not make life easy for shorter riders. Heated grips and an aluminum engine guard, however, are included as standard, which is appreciated at this price level.

Because 14,990 euros is the price of the 2024 BMW F 900 GS Adventure in base configuration. A substantial sum, even if it remains reasonable compared to an Africa Twin or a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro that operate in the same segment. What distinguishes the Bavarian machine is its 23-liter tank, its integrated crashbars as standard, and its predisposition for side cases. Autonomy calculations quickly become favorable on long stages, especially since the adjustable bubble and handguards limit fatigue. The BMW F 900 GS Adventure dimensions deserve to be mentioned for what they imply on the ground: with 230 mm of travel at the Showa 43 mm inverted fork and 215 mm at the mono-shock, the machine digests rough roads without flinching, without getting in the way of a spontaneous obstacle. These values are identical to those of the 850, and they have amply proven their worth.

BMW F 900 GS Adventure

New highlight of the 2024 BMW F 900 GS Adventure: the Showa fork is now adjustable. Preload, rebound, compression, the enlightened enthusiast can now adapt the behavior to their load and riding style. ESA Dynamic for automatic management remains an option, like the shifter, center stand, or Enduro Pro modes. As standard, there is Rain and Road, active cornering ABS Pro, traction control, and the very good 6.5-inch color TFT connected to the phone. Turn-by-turn navigation via the BMW app works correctly, even if some competitors offer more native GPS integration.

BMW F 900 GS Adventure

What is the top speed of the BMW F 900 GS Adventure? Officially 200 km/h, which is more than enough for a machine designed to last on long distances rather than to explode lap times. The BMW F 900 GS Adventure targets the grand traveler who wants a versatile machine, capable of getting off the beaten path without making track competition a part of their daily life. It is not the lightest in its category, nor the most technologically advanced if you compare it to the options available from Japanese or English competitors, but it consistently carries the GS philosophy in a human format and price. For 2025 and beyond, it remains a solid reference in this mid-size space that nevertheless lacks serious contenders.
