Overview
Rally enthusiasts don’t choose heavy machines like large trail-GTs. They need a muscular, dynamic, and adventurous machine. Within the KTM range, there is a machine to satisfy demanding appetites without being extreme. One bike intertwines Adventure Rally with the 450 Rally Replica (customer competition): the 890 Adventure R Rally.
This new iteration builds upon the 890 Adventure R with the “Rally” improvements already present on the previous generation. Among these, one of the most notable is the adoption of more advanced suspension components offering even more travel. The WP elements benefit from 270 mm of travel, and allow for more than 30 cm of ground clearance – not far from what a pure enduro type EXC-F offers. As in 2021, the fork is an XPLOR PRO 7548 and the shock is an XPLOR PRO 6746. High-end, fully adjustable hardware, which explains a good portion of the price tag.
Since the previous 890 Adventure Rally, a number of components are new, such as the orange-focused graphics, a more encompassing aluminum engine guard, the fitment of a Supersprox-Stealth anodized rear sprocket, a speed regulator, a new 5-inch TFT screen, and the choice of new wheels. DID rims are replaced by Excel while the Karoo 3 tires are replaced by Mitas Enduro Trail. Radiator and rear brake master cylinder protections have also been added.
The Akrapovic titanium silencer (1 kg weight reduction), special footpegs, carbon fiber tank protectors, a specific seat, the quickshifter, and the additional “Rally” riding mode are still present (it is optional on other 890 Adventure models). Indeed, when it comes to electronics, the Rally is not lacking. It benefits from cornering-sensitive ABS with deactivation capability, a 10-level traction control system sensitive to lean angle, a 6D inertial sensor, a wheelie control system, an engine slip control system, and 4 Riding Modes (Rain / Street / Offroad / Rally). The “Rally” mode, which we mentioned earlier, allows you to turn off anti-wheelie and adjust engine response according to Rally, Offroad, or Street laws.
For rally-raid, the 450 Replica will be more effective. But the 890 Adventure Rally is powered by a more powerful twin. The engine produces 105 horsepower and a little more than 10 mkg of torque. This allows for good vigor in all terrains, and the ability to travel on classic roads in complete tranquility, without making the engine scream. And with 20 liters in the tank, you can cover a lot of miles.
This optimized version of the Adventure is not new. KTM launched the idea with the 790 Adventure Rally in 2020. A limited series for demanding enthusiasts. The recipe was revisited in 2021 with the 890, still in restricted distribution. 2024 announces a new tour of this Adventure Rally, with 700 units distributed worldwide. This is quite vast to give a whole host of ideas for challenges. This Rally intends to take them on. The price has also been adjusted accordingly.
This 890 Adventure R Rally has received instructions from KTM. Or rather, a message to be transmitted along with a proposal. The 34 customers who pre-order the 890 Adventure R Rally 2024 will have the opportunity to participate in a major adventure, from March 03 to March 07, 2024, or from March 07 to March 11, 2024, aboard an 890 Adventure R Rally provided by KTM.
Thanks to an exclusive "KTM ADVENTURE PACKAGE", these 34 adventurers will have the opportunity to join legends such as Johnny Aubert for three days on the same course as the Rallye Du Maroc. They will experience the thrill of a race in the dunes, on epic paved and gravel roads where the KTM FACTORY RALLY team pushes its machines and endurance to the maximum. The program includes shuttle transport, 4 nights in a luxury hotel, 1 night in desert accommodation, official licenses, and a dedicated course designed by a subject matter expert. The circuit costs €4,900 per person and will be organized by the third-party tour operator “Offroad Adventure Tours”.
Online pre-orders for the KTM 890 Adventure R Rally begin on September 20 at 5:00 PM on the official KTM website. This is enough to organize a new frenzy to sell out the units in a few hours. And it will...
