Overview

Do you remember the time when a trail was defined primarily by its character, and not by a list of electronic equipment? It is in this twilight of the 2000s that Benelli, freshly resurrected, unleashed a singular beast: the Tre-K 1130 Amazonas. Imagine the inline three-cylinder engine howling from a Triumph Speed Triple, but grafted onto a steel trellis frame with the looks of a burly all-terrain machine. The result is less a modern trail than a roadster elevated and slightly disguised as an adventurer, a proposition that smells of boldness and clever tinkering.

Benelli Tre-K 1130K Amazonas

Under the 22-liter tank beats a heart of 1130 cm3 delivering 123 horsepower, a power that, at the time, made most of its more sensible competitors blanch. Its torque of 112 Nm arrives early, at 5000 rpm, promising muscular acceleration off the tarmac. But you have to contend with a significant weight, 240 kg fully fueled, which immediately tempers the impulses of a pure hard-riding adventurer. This is clearly not a machine for the jungle, despite its evocative name. Faced with a BMW R 1200 GS of the time, more refined and balanced, the Benelli plays the card of a friendly brute.

The "Amazonas" spirit lies in a few aesthetic and pragmatic modifications. Spoked wheels, knobby tires, "petal" brake discs, and a small engine guard give it the look of a Sunday adventurer. The 48 mm inverted fork and seat height of 84 cm confirm this posture. But don't be fooled: technically, it is the base Tre-K, an eccentric roadster that has simply put on hiking boots. It targets the motorcyclist who wants a lively engine and an upright riding position for the road and stabilized paths, without indulging (and paying the price) for an over-equipped German machine.

On the saddle, you can guess the compromises. The three-cylinder should be a party, sonically and generously, but the weight is felt in tight turns or low-speed maneuvers. It is a motorcycle with character, demanding, which requires an active rider to counterbalance its mass. At 13,360 euros at its launch, it positioned itself as a fascinating, but niche, Italian alternative to the hegemony of Japanese and German trails.

The Tre-K 1130 Amazonas remains today a fascinating anomaly. It embodies an almost artisanal approach to the trail, prioritizing pure sensation and an exciting engine over aseptic versatility. It is neither the most efficient nor the easiest to live with, but for those seeking a motorcycle with a strong identity, capable of bringing a smile to the road and brushing against paths without complexes, this Benelli retains a crazy charm. A mechanical middle finger to convention, with the scent of adventure as an option.
