Overview

The name Tuono embodies two decades of Italian fury. Born in 2002 on an RSV millimeter platform, the Noale roadster has always represented the art of accessible excess: taking a sportbike, stripping its fairing, and unleashing the beast on the open road. With the Tuono 457, Aprilia plays a different but consistent score. Offering this mindset to those starting with an A2 license. The displacement changes, the philosophy not.

Aprilia Tuono 457

Those who knew the Tuono 1000 MK2 of 2006 will have a tenacious sense of déjà vu as they circle the 457. Aprilia speaks of a blank sheet of paper; the older ones smile. The streamlined headstock, the profiled radiator cowls that muscle up the whole, the twin-cylinder intentionally highlighted as a design centerpiece, all of this speaks of dynastic continuity more than a rupture. This is not a criticism. The double-beam aluminum frame remains visible, the exhaust slips under the engine to avoid polluting the silhouette. The 800 mm high saddle, V-shaped, allows most builds to place a foot without acrobatics. In Piranha Red or Puma Grey, the machine confidently assumes its belonging to the family.

Under the cooling fins beats the same 457 cm3 parallel twin as on the RS 457, but with a shorter final transmission, one more crown gear, which makes the Aprilia Tuono 457 more biting on corner exits. The 47.6 horsepower arrives at 9,400 rpm, the legal ceiling for A2, and the 43.5 Nm of torque is available at 6,700 rpm, with 82% of this value already present from 3,000 rpm. In concrete terms, you don't need to rev the engine out to have substance at hand. Aprilia has pushed the engineering far enough for a machine in this category: cylinders offset by 6.5 mm from the crankshaft to reduce friction, DLC-treated piston pins, roller bearing gearbox borrowed from competition V4s. For 159 kg dry weight, the power-to-weight ratio is serious, and the maximum speed of 180 km/h places the machine within the expected standard. Two-channel Bosch ABS and three-level ATC traction control complete the onboard electronics, with a Ride-by-Wire that manages three modes, ECO, SPORT and RAIN, adjustable even while riding.

Aprilia Tuono 457

The double-beam aluminum frame structures a rigid and compact assembly, where the engine plays a load-bearing role; the swingarm anchors directly onto it, as on the 660 range. This steel swingarm is a little disappointing in this context, but let's be honest, you only look at it when removing the rear wheel. The 41 mm adjustable inverted fork deserves to be highlighted compared to the 37 mm that CF Moto offers on the 450 NK, a direct competitor who aggressively plays on prices but still has an image to build. The ByBre calipers, 320 mm disc at the front with four pistons, are serious. The 5-inch TFT dashboard and the Aprilia MIA system for connecting your smartphone complete a generous standard equipment for the category. Optional Aprilia Tuono 457 accessories, notably the bidirectional Quick Shift, would have deserved to be included at this price.

Aprilia Tuono 457

At 6,599 euros, the machine is positioned between the Kawasaki Z500 at 5,999 euros and the sporty RS 457 at 7,199 euros. The positioning is thoughtful. The Z500 benefits from the image of its big sisters, but it lacks the racing pedigree that Aprilia has cultivated for decades in Grand Prix. It is the most obvious Aprilia for an A2 license holder looking for character without breaking the bank, more accessible in riding position than the RS 457, less austere than Asian alternatives. The target audience is clearly defined: young A2 license holder or motorcyclist returning after a break, looking for a credible machine sufficiently equipped electronically to learn without unpleasant surprises. At heart, Aprilia delivers a naked bike that embraces its DNA without cheating on essential components. In a segment where most competitors only play on raw value for money, this is already a form of distinction.
