Overview

When Noale decides to transform its Superbike world champion into a naked bike, the result can be neither tame nor consensus-driven. The RSV4 served as the foundation — a machine built to humiliate the best displacements on the planet on track. Removing the fairing and raising the handlebars wasn't enough, the engineers knew it. So they dug in, carved out, repositioned every component to produce something that could handle daily riding without losing the soul of a track weapon.

Aprilia TUONO 1000 V4 R

The result on the scales reads 179 kg dry, a figure worth pausing on. To get there, Aprilia shaved two kilograms off the exhaust and revised the wheels in the same direction. The twin-spar perimeter aluminum frame comes straight from the RSV4, but the steering head has been opened by half a degree to reach 25°, moved forward ten millimeters, which extends the wheelbase by two centimeters. Stability gains, agility remains. The engine itself has been lowered five millimeters in the frame, dropping the center of gravity accordingly. These adjustments look surgical on paper; in corners, they make all the difference against a KTM 990 Super Duke or a BMW S 1000 R.

The 65-degree V4, 999 cc, produces 167 horsepower at 11,500 rpm, about ten less than the RSV4 in its most aggressive version. This restraint is deliberate and intelligent. The engineers chose instead to work on torque, raised to 109.8 Nm available from 9,500 rpm, a thousand revs earlier than on the sport base. The crankshaft receives more inertia, the intake tracts are lengthened, the first three ratios of the six-speed gearbox are tightened. All of this converges into an engine that pulls hard from low in the rev range, delivers with brutal honesty at mid-revs, and keeps climbing to 260 km/h without ever feeling breathless. Cracking the throttle wide open on corner exit means feeling those 109 Nm hammer down on the rear wheel like a blacksmith's mallet.

The chassis leaves nothing to chance. The 43 mm diameter upside-down cartridge fork with 120 mm of travel, the single shock with 130 mm of travel, the radial four-piston Brembo calipers biting 320 mm discs up front: these are the segment benchmarks. Everything is adjustable, everything is calibrated for a rider who knows what they're doing. The 835 mm seat accommodates a passenger thanks to integrated grab handles in the tail unit, a concession to everyday use that the RSV4 doesn't make. On the aprilia tuono 1000 v4 r aprc version, the steering damper is included as standard — a detail that carries real weight when talking about a machine capable of unsettling any poorly prepared set of footpegs.

Aprilia TUONO 1000 V4 R

Three engine maps — Track, Sport, and Road — allow the beast to be metered according to context. In Road mode, the bike stays lively but manageable for an experienced rider. In Track mode, the filters ease off and every throttle opening becomes a negotiation with physics. This Tuono V4 R is not a motorcycle for the hesitant or for those seeking a versatile naked bike at 12,999 euros. It's a radical proposition, aimed at a rider who knows their limits and chooses to push them with method. Those seeking smoothness can look elsewhere. The rest will have found their drug.
