Overview
When Aprilia released the Factory, the impact was resounding. A competition V4 dressed for the road, Superbike performance, a technical specification that was dizzying, and a bill of 20,000 euros that cooled more than one person’s enthusiasm. The message from Noale was clear: here is what we know how to do. But the Italian firm hadn’t said its last word.

The Aprilia RSV4 R arrives for 2010 with a simple promise. Same perimeter aluminum twin-spar frame, same compact and aggressive silhouette, same 999.6 cc V4 bolted high in the structure to lower the center of gravity. And above all, a launch price of under 15,000 euros, saving more than 5,000 euros over the Factory. The letter R doesn't mean trimming, it means rationalization. Aprilia put the machine through selective shearing, preserving what constitutes the essence of the motorcycle.
Specifically, the Öhlins suspensions give way to a 43 mm Showa inverted fork and a Sachs shock absorber, the carbon fiber fairings make way for conventional plastic parts, the forged wheels become cast wheels, and the front discs switch from stainless steel to steel. The steering column loses its eccentric, the swingarm is no longer adjustable in height, and the engine is no longer repositioned in the frame. These are real concessions, which weigh approximately five kilos extra on the scale and will be felt at high intensity on the track, when a truly experienced rider seeks the last tenth of a second of precision. For the rest of the world, that is to say the vast majority of buyers of this Aprilia RSV4 R 1000, the difference remains theoretical.
Because the essential is intact. This 65-degree V4 delivers 180 horsepower at 12,500 rpm and 115 Nm at 10,000 rpm, with the same ride-by-wire injection as the Factory, the same dual injectors per cylinder, the same compression ratio of 13.0:1, and the three engine maps that make all the difference in everyday use. Road mode allows you to enjoy without stress, Sport tightens the behavior for the track, and Track releases the 180 horsepower without a net, to be reserved for riders who know exactly what they are doing on a 184 kg motorcycle with a top speed of 300 km/h. The seat height of 845 mm is not for small builds, and the 17-liter tank imposes discipline on long distances, but the Aprilia RSV4 R 1000cc motorcycle has never claimed to be a grand tourer.
Faced with the ZX-10R, CBR1000RR and GSX-R1000 of the time, the Aprilia RSV4 R 2010 offers something that the Japanese have not been able to do as well: an engine architecture conceived from a blank sheet of paper, without inherited compromises from a previous generation. The narrow V4 allows for wheel passages that inline four-cylinders prohibit, the frame rigidity places the front wheel with surgical precision, and the overall behavior adheres to the standards of factory machines. This is precisely what makes the Aprilia RSV4 R technical specification so impressive on paper, and the motorcycle so convincing to ride. The targeted buyer is not the novice looking for their first sportbike, but the confirmed rider who wants character, performance and an identity that Asian manufacturers still struggle to reproduce at this price level.
