Overview

When Aprilia decides to pull out all the stops, it looks like this: a 60-degree V-twin displacing 997 cc, 143 horsepower at 9,500 rpm, 101 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, and a spec sheet that would make many homologated race machines blush. The 2007 RSV-R Factory is the culmination of a simple philosophy — everything that can be lightened is, everything that can be improved is, and the customer pays for access to this Italian obsession with detail.

Aprilia RSV-R 1000 Factory

The engine received a new engine management system and revised exhaust valves in 2006, translating into five additional horsepower. On a machine capable of 280 km/h, that may seem incidental. What truly sets the Factory apart from the standard RSV-R is everything happening around the engine. Suspension duties are handled entirely by Öhlins Racing, with a 43 mm inverted fork and a rear monoshock adjustable for preload, compression and rebound. The dual-chamber steering damper, also by Öhlins, completes an aluminum twin-spar chassis whose gold finish draws a continuous visual line through to the forged alloy wheels. These forged wheels offer greater strength than cast components while weighing 25% less. It's the kind of detail that isn't visible at first glance but makes itself felt the moment a line demands precision.

Carbon fiber is everywhere: front and rear fenders, air vents, fork leg deflectors, tank side covers. Not decorative carbon there to justify a high price tag, but structurally relevant components that contribute to bringing the dry weight down to 185 kg. For context: that was exactly the weight of the RSV 1000 SP, the Superbike-spec version reserved for competition use a few years prior. Achieving that figure on a production machine, with all of the Factory's equipment, represents a genuine engineering effort from the team in Noale. The 810 mm seat height and 18-liter tank are reminders, however, that this motorcycle is not designed for everyday use — it speaks to the experienced rider who knows exactly what they're looking for.

At €15,900 at launch, the 2007 Factory arrived with an additional advantage over previous versions: a price nearly €2,000 lower than the 2005 model year. Against the Honda RC51, the Ducati 999R, or the Suzuki GSX-R 1000, it played on different ground. Less accessible, more radical, with that 60-degree V-twin character that resembles nothing else on the road. The oval exhaust outlets introduced in 2007 add one more visual flourish to a package that was never short of them. This RSV-R Factory is an enthusiast's motorcycle, conceived by enthusiasts, for those who consider compromise a weakness.
