Overview
Major evolution for the YZ 450 F in 2026, both in the chassis and engine. Enhanced overall balance is at the core of Iwata’s most powerful motocross machine.
It features a new engine, with a redesigned intake system for improved ease of use, a more linear response to acceleration, and better low- and mid-range control. To achieve this, the shape and surface finish of the intake duct have been modified to achieve optimal cylinder filling, for improved efficiency at low and mid-range, while maintaining power at higher RPM. Torque characteristics have also been improved for a better feel. These modifications improve engine reliability while reducing stress on the rider. The new machine retains the key characteristics that have made the current engine successful, such as the reverse cylinder head, 39 mm titanium intake valves, forged aluminum piston, needle bearing connecting rod main bearing, and dry sump.
The exhaust sound has been softened thanks to a resonator positioned in the center and modified settings. The air filter now features an additional resonator and duct to reduce intake noise. The angle of the muffler attachment has been slightly lowered to create more space and thus facilitate handling at the rear fender.
Among the new features that truly make a difference in the riding experience is a new hydraulic clutch, which maintains the engagement point during riding; this means no adjustments are necessary during racing. This also facilitates the feel of the engagement point. The lever feel is natural and light, with smoother modulation. Other modifications to the clutch and lever ensure more stable performance.
The YZ 450 F chassis has been widely praised. It is further improved in 2026 to achieve optimized comfort and feel. The internal structure and thickness of the lower tubes have been redesigned, and asymmetrical bilateral engine mounts have been adopted to adjust its torsional behavior. This reduces stiffness under power stroke loads, while maintaining the same levels of longitudinal, lateral, and torsional rigidity, for a reinforced front-end stability feel, as well as a more balanced chassis feel, improved stability in ruts and under braking, and contained mass transfer.
To match the new chassis characteristics, the front suspension settings have been modified to improve stability and reduce fatigue. At the rear, a new suspension has been developed, jointly with KYB, to soften the transition of damping force between low and high speeds. To improve damping in compression and rebound at low speed, the piston structures have been revised (the base piston goes from 24 to 28 mm) and separate oil passages have been added. The main piston, which regulates compression at medium and high speeds, now has six ports per stroke, instead of four previously, which improves damping under heavy loads. A new manual adjustment device for compression damping is also available.
In addition to the chassis and suspensions, the seat surface has been revised for better grip. It features a honeycomb pattern, with a depth and grain designed to reduce the risk of the rider sliding backward during acceleration. This new pattern also facilitates the rider's movement forward.
When the YZ 450 F 2026 is parked, a function allows the rider to electronically lock the motorcycle via a smartphone. The engine cannot restart until the correct password has been entered in the Power Tuner app. The system therefore acts as an anti-theft device.
In addition to ECU locking, the Power Tuner app allows you to adjust the engine’s character according to the rider's preferences and track conditions, traction control and starts, and offers a timing function. A multi-function handlebar-mounted switch allows the rider to select the engine mapping while riding. A lightweight lithium battery powers the YZ 450 F’s electronic arsenal.
The YZ 450 F also stands out with its aesthetics. The new bodywork has been designed to highlight its light and compact silhouette, with a slim and low number plate, a new rear fender, and two-piece side protectors with a two-tone color scheme that enhances the characteristic horizontal lines of the YZ range. The YZ logos and Speed Block pattern reinforce its belonging to this illustrious family.
The YZ 450 F 70th Anniversary model draws even more inspiration from Yamaha’s successes, with this white and red livery inspired by the iconic YZM400F, the very first 4-stroke machine to have won victories in motocross and AMA Supercross world championships.
