Overview
This is the philosophy of this machine. The Ducati Desmo450 MX has successfully entered the cross-country sector. A powerful yet not brutal engine, proven overall efficiency, electronics worthy of Borgo Panigale’s sportbikes, a weight of 250, and a disconcerting ease for a four-and-a-half – the reds have done a good job.
As with sportbikes with more racing-oriented versions, Ducati offers a more refined version of the MX for high-level enthusiasts. It’s called Factory, a name full of meaning and very revealing. Does it want to compete in a championship? In any case, it equips itself to face the terrain at a high dose.
Besides the racing-type graphics, one of the first elements you notice is the treatment of the Showa inverted fork. It receives, like the rear shock absorber, a Dark Kashima surface treatment (a titanium oxide) to increase surface hardness by 60% and decrease friction by 10%. To hold the front, new Ergal triple clamps offer more rigidity and 200 grams less.
The brakes are still a Brembo / Galfer combination. On the Factory, the front disc gains protection. In the same spirit of preservation, an engine guard made of carbon takes its place under the belly. And to breathe better, an Akrapovic exhaust is installed as standard. Entirely made of titanium, it shaves off 1.7 kg (with the addition of accessories, the total weight of the machine only decreases by 0.8 kg, with 204 kg). It also allows the engine to have a wider torque range and more power at high RPM.
The Desmo450 MX Factory also features the Ducati Com-Link Wi-Fi module, to configure the electronics and enjoy a telemetry system, a Holeshot Device on the fork for better starts, an RK MXU chain (the same as the factory team bike), and what it takes to send it with its 63.5 horsepower desmodromic single-cylinder engine.
The Factory costs 2,100 euros more than the standard Desmo450 MX, for a slightly higher price than the KTM SX-F 450 Factory Edition, its designated rival.
