Overview
Does a motorcycle become a true touring machine simply by adding a windscreen and two saddlebags? That's the question that arises as soon as you look at a Yamaha Tracer 7 GT. This 2021 model, which has since evolved into the 2024 and 2025 versions, plays a subtle game: it takes the playful base of the MT-07 and attempts to transform it into a weekend companion. For a little under €9600 at the time, the GT pack promised escape. But let's not be fooled, it's more of a dressed-up roadster than a full-fledged touring machine.

The heart of the machine is that famous 689 cm3 CP2 twin-cylinder engine, delivering 74 horsepower at 8750 rpm and a well-present torque of 68 Nm from the mid-range. The engine is a real success, lively, sonorous, and incredibly engaging. It gives this Tracer 7 GT a much more spirited character than its appearance as a small road-going trail bike might suggest. The simple and effective chassis, with its tubular frame and telescopic fork, offers intuitive and reassuring handling. With 196 kg fully fueled and a 840 mm seat height, it remains accessible, even if its weight, often questioned by potential buyers who wonder "what is the weight of the Yamaha Tracer 7 GT 2025?", is felt when stationary. Reasonable fuel consumption, around 4.3 L/100 km, and a 17-liter tank ensure good range for getaways.
But let's move on to the famous GT equipment. The taller and wider windscreen is effective for an average build. The specific saddle is correct without being plush. And then there are the City panniers. Here, the shoe pinches: with 20 liters each, their capacity is spartan. It's far from the large volumes of true GTs. You'll fit the essentials for a light weekend for two, but certainly not two full-face helmets. This is the point that radically differentiates this "7 GT" from its big sister, the Tracer 9 GT, which is a machine designed from the outset for grand touring, with electronically controlled suspension and complete equipment. Here, you get the impression of having bought optional Yamaha Tracer 7 GT accessories, but factory-mounted.

So, who is it for? The rider looking for a first motorcycle capable of everything, a roadster with honest protection and a little luggage for short getaways. It is perfect for those who value the pure driving sensations, offered by this brilliant CP2 engine, over excessive electronics. Faced with competitors like the Suzuki V-Strom 650 or the Honda CB500X, it relies entirely on pleasure and character. On the other hand, those who imagine long trips loaded will need to look elsewhere or budget for more spacious Yamaha Tracer 7 GT accessories, such as top cases or aftermarket panniers.

The Yamaha Tracer 7 GT, in its 2021 vintage as in its more recent variations, does not claim to be the queen of grand touring. It's a disguised MT-07 urban adventurer, a playful and simple machine that offers a smile per kilometer on back roads. Its price, which is often questioned ("what is the price of a new Yamaha Tracer 7 GT?"), remains its master card for sporty and versatile entry-level. It doesn't cheat: it announces the color, a sporty and unpretentious hike, and it keeps its word.
