Overview
With the Fazer, Yamaha has always played it close to the vest. Either you change everything, or you refine it with watchmaker’s precision. For the generation released in 2007, named S2, the second option was clearly the one chosen. Don’t look for a revolution under the hood or in the soul of the frame; the philosophy remains intact. The exercise is more subtle: it’s about perfecting a formula that already works very well, by correcting a few weaknesses identified by users. The result is this Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2, an evolution that speaks primarily to those who already know the beast.

The facelift, although discreet, is significant. The front end is reworked with a fork head with raised flanks and a new bubble. But the real progress is felt on board. Yamaha finally listened to the criticism about the dashboard, inheriting the much more readable instrumentation from the FZ1. The tachometer finally becomes clear. Another detail that is important, the passenger footrests are no longer welded, but screwed, a modification that simplifies life in case of repair. The seat is also redesigned for better comfort, a crucial point for this machine designed for everyday use and travel. With a seat height of 795 mm, the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 remains accessible to the majority of riders.
Under the hood, the 600 cm³ inline four-cylinder engine, derived from the R6, retains its 98 horsepower. The magic still works, with a willing character in the high RPMs that contrasts with its civility at low RPMs. The injection mapping has been retouched and a new exhaust line appears. Many owners will look into the price of the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 600 silencer to replace it with an aftermarket part, often seeking more bass and a little extra character. On the chassis side, the swingarm is the major technical change, adopting a hexagonal aluminum section to gain rigidity and precision. Braking also improves with monoblock calipers inspired by the R1 of the time.
So, who is she? This Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 2008, and later the 2011 version, remains an incredibly balanced proposition. Faced with a Suzuki Bandit 650 that is more supple or a Honda Hornet 600 that is slightly more lively, the Fazer focuses on its versatility. It is just as comfortable in the city as on a winding road, and its 19-liter tank makes it a serious road-trip companion. At the time, its price of 6990 euros positioned it as a safe bet. Today, on the used market, it represents a smart purchase for a motorcyclist looking for a first large displacement, reliable, efficient, and hassle-free machine. It is a machine that does not seek to fight with the superbikes, but which offers 95% of the sensations with 100% practicality. A classic, simply.
