Overview
What if the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 were proof that you can do something new with the old? In 2007, Yamaha didn't revolutionize its versatile roadster, but gave it an intelligent, almost surgical rejuvenation. The heart remains untouched: this faithful 600 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine from the R6, delivering 98 horsepower at 12,000 rpm and 63.2 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. It remains a lively engine, a bit high in the rev range for brutal acceleration, but with exemplary reliability. The change is all around.

The face is refined. The fork head is redesigned, the screen evolves, the mudguard changes. But the significant modifications are more subtle. The new instrumentation, directly imported from the FZ1, replaces the old round speedometer, offering much better readability. Yamaha also listened to the criticism: the passenger footrests are no longer welded, but screwed, a practical detail in case of repair, and they are placed lower for improved comfort. The seat, with its new foam and trim, promises to better absorb long hours.
The real surprise comes from the chassis. The swingarm is now a beautiful specimen of hexagonal section aluminum, stiffer and designed to optimize agility. Coupled with the perimeter frame and a 43 mm fork, it gives this 207 kg machine a more precise base when fully fueled. The brakes follow the trend with new monoblock calipers, inspired by those of the R1 before the radial era, which bite on 298 mm discs at the front. It is sufficient, without being transcendent.
This Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 2008, or 2011, doesn't seek to be a brute. With a seat height of 795 mm and a 19.4-liter tank, it targets the touring rider who wants a machine capable of everything, from the daily commute to the summer vacation, without the excessive nervousness of a pure sportbike. Its price of 7799 euros at the time placed it in direct competition with roadsters such as the Honda CBR600F or the Suzuki GSX600F, often offering a better comfort/performance compromise.
Its weakness? Like many of these diverted R6 engines, it sometimes lacks punch at low rpm, requiring you to play with the six-speed gearbox to wake it up. And some owners quickly sought to purchase a Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 600 silencer to personalize the sound, or improve the response. Opinions on Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 600 silencers and their price were then a recurring topic among enthusiasts.
In short, this Fazer S2 is not a revolution, but a very successful evolution. It retains the essence of an efficient and versatile Japanese roadster, while correcting the flaws of the previous generation. For those looking for a 600 cm3 motorcycle usable every day, with the pedigree of a sportbike engine and the comfort of a roadster, its technical specifications speak for themselves. It remains an excellent choice, even today, for a motorcyclist who wants substance without extravagance.
