Overview
The 800 Tiger road excursion doesn't it really begin with the XRX version? Triumph suggests this clearly through the equipment. Nothing to discard on the XR, the base model; but one looks at it with a certain disdain once one has discovered this higher-end model. Of the crowd of improvements received by Triumph’s mid-size trails, it is here that one discovers the most notable differences with the previous generation.
Aesthetically, it must be admitted. The few retouchings will not be enough to provoke a real feeling of difference between the two opus. It will be more noticeable on the engine side. Revised for more responsiveness, it receives a gearbox with a shorter first gear for even more pep. To assert a certain stature, braking is entrusted to Brembo. However, what will impress you the most is located before your eyes. Not immediately, while driving.
It is now that the XR and the ex-XRX will seem from another time. It only takes to graft a 5" color TFT screen to it to make it symbolically tip into a world even more technological. And technically too. Very pleasant to look at, the dashboard provides 6 types of displays. The technological contribution continues with a revised cruise control and new LED lighting.
The price bracket of the X is a clear step above the XR. Logical in view of the additional package provided. No need to search in the options box, there is enough to do. Compared to the base version, this 800 Tiger carries a 5-position adjustable windshield assisted by a set of deflectors, a 5-position joystick to command the on-board electronics, 4 riding modes - Road – Rain – Off-road – Sport -, the cold alliance made of handguards and heated grips and a radiator protector. Let us finish the panoply by recalling the equipment common to all 800 Tiger road models: the 12V and USB sockets, the seat and handlebars adjustable, the essential ABS and traction control disconnectable, and this three-cylinder engine with an enthusiastic behavior. Allied to a chassis without reproach which knows how to show itself an excellent ally of all types of riding.
With the Tiger 800 XRX, Triumph refines its deck of cards to keep BMW at a certain distance. More attractive than the XR, less abundant than the XRT, it positions itself as a trail of a certain opulence. Increasingly distant from the original concept but more in phase with modern use. For the baroud of the paths, the XC version will be more suitable but no less well equipped.
