Overview
Work hard, play hard! Bonus points to whoever can identify the film from which this tirade is taken. At Ducati, some models draw inspiration from it. To have fun after a good week’s work, the Hypermotard is perfect for playing in mountain passes. For serious fun, the SP version will be more suitable for a muscular, even corrosive, use. Its 821 cm3 twin retains the same parameters: 110 hp and 9.1 mkg but the electronics and peripherals are modified accordingly. Secret ambition: the track.
The Ducati Safety Pack of the Hypermotard SP is recalibrated, with the addition of Race, Sport, and Wet riding modes. Race: 110 horsepower with a “High” RbW, a DTC that intervenes at a minimum and an ABS at level 1, programmed for the front only, which does not avoid rear wheel lift. Sport: 110 hp, with a “Medium” RbW, a DTC that intervenes classically and an ABS at level 2 for powerful braking and reduced intervention on rear wheel lift. Wet: 75 hp, with a “Low” RbW, a DTC that intervenes at a maximum and an ABS at level 3 for the most stable braking possible and which prevents rear wheel lift. The suspensions increase their level of efficiency by one notch. The 43 mm Kayaba fork without adjustments gives way to a fully adjustable 50 mm Marzocchi with 15 mm of additional travel. The Sachs shock absorber is also removed in favor of an Öhlins element, with more adjustments and 25 mm of additional stroke.
Efficiency! This supermotard thinks about it all the time. You can find improved elements everywhere to honor this leitmotiv. The rider is thus entitled to a variable section aluminum handlebar, a seat offering more grip, a better radial brake master cylinder with 5 adjustment positions (4 on the standard HM) and more ground clearance (210 mm). And what about more agility during changes of angle? The SP has what it takes with forged aluminum Marchesini rims; weight saving: 2 kilos. Of course, the tire fitment is in line with the pretensions of this motorcycle. A good pair of Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP in 120/70 at the front and 180/55 at the rear.
With its raised suspensions, the seat of the 821 Hypermotard SP is logically higher. 890 mm, that’s starting to peak. No panic, a lower seat of 20 mm exists as an accessory. Material assessment. Steel, aluminum... and carbon too. It is used for the front mudguard and the timing belt covers. A little magnesium too? Yes, for the valve covers. More expensive, more sporty, the SP is also 4 kilos lighter than the Hypermotard. The scale returns 171 kilos dry. This SP version, very distinctive, is primarily aimed at experienced motorcyclists.
