Overview
A reduced displacement to open up to a wider audience without sacrificing the HM spirit. Indeed, the 796 retains the uncompromising lines of the 1100, even featuring an inverted fork complemented by radial brake calipers, a fully digital dashboard, under-seat silencers, and a monobras – one didn’t expect to find such a component on a model announced at €8,990… although – the late 800 Monster S2R was equipped with it too. But let's focus on this new twin installed in the little Hypermotard. Actually displacing 803 cm3 (but the marketing retained the designation 796...), this oil-cooled desmodromic engine announces the same bore (88 mm) as the 696 Monster for a longer stroke (66 mm) than the latter. It delivers a little more power than the 696, namely 81 horsepower. It is mainly its torque that will make the difference: 7.7 mkg distributed over a much more exploitable range.
The 696 Hypermotard aims to be as attractive as the big brother 1100 while presenting itself as much more accessible. It is a featherweight of 167 kg dry, with a seat height of 825 mm - 20 mm less than the 1100 – and an APTC clutch. This system inaugurated on the 620 Monster reduces lever effort, acts as a torque damper, and prevents rear wheel lock-up during aggressive downshifts. The 796 HM will be available in a discreet blend of white and black. The more traditional and remarkable red version will require a small additional effort of €310.
