Overview
Are you looking for a motorcycle that can do everything without fuss, with a touch of adventure in its gaze but without the extremes of radical off-road riding? The Low version of the 2016 Tiger 800 XCx catches the eye. Triumph has created here a Swiss Army knife for those who find the standard seat height a little intimidating. At 79 cm, it welcomes more modest builds with open arms or those who prefer to have both feet flat on the ground at traffic lights. But don’t be fooled, it’s not a watered-down motorcycle either.

Under the 19-liter tank beats the heart of an 800cc three-cylinder engine, a mechanical unit that has made the brand’s reputation. With 95 horsepower at 9300 rpm and 79 Nm of torque, it delivers its power with exemplary progressiveness. It doesn’t overwhelm like a twin-cylinder, it persuades. On the road, the linear trio is a pleasure of flexibility, making sixth-gear roll-ons worthy of a GT. The chassis, with its trellis frame and aluminum swingarm, offers surprising agility for a machine weighing 220 kg fully fueled. The adjustable WP suspension, front and rear, allows you to dose firmness and comfort, whether swallowing tarmac or venturing onto a gravel path.
Compared to a BMW F 800 GS of the time, the Tiger clearly focuses on road versatility and mechanical refinement. The German motorcycle may seem rougher and more off-road oriented, while the Triumph plays the card of accessibility and everyday pleasure. Its braking, ensured by Nissin calipers and a switchable ABS, is effective without being brutal, perfect for the globetrotter who is not looking for extreme performance but safety. The 90/90-21 front and 150/70-17 rear tires confirm this positioning: it is a road trail, capable of digesting potholes and gravel, not a raid machine.

So, who is it for? For the motorcyclist who wants one motorcycle to do everything: the commute to work, weekend rides on country roads, and those vacations where you decide to leave the tarmac without challenging the Dakar. Its entry price, around 13,000 euros new at the time, placed it in the running against the competition. Today, as a used model, it represents a smart investment. Its drawback? Perhaps this weight felt at very low speed, inherited from its seriousness and equipment, which requires a little acclimatization. But once launched, this Low Tiger reveals its true character: that of a reliable, noble and surprisingly versatile companion, proving that you can be accessible without being boring.
