Overview

Triumph is throwing its hat into the MXGP arena with conviction and a purpose-built machine: the TF 450-RC. This direct competitor to the KTM SX-F 450, Honda CRF, and GasGas MC-F (among others) benefits directly from Ricky Carmichael’s involvement in its development.

Hinckley began its cross-country foray with the TF 250-X. Developed by Triumph’s finest engineers and motocross champions, the TF 450-RC Edition boasts the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. The English brand’s new 450 cc engine is compact, mass-optimized, and designed for racing. Engineering, design, and equipment work in harmony for top-tier power, control, and agility.

The color scheme incorporates Triumph’s Performance Yellow with black and white accents. It also features RC’s iconic number 4, the GOAT logo, and sponsor details, adding a personalized touch that reflects the spirit of this motocross legend. This design is carried over to the numbering panels, swingarm decals, and other visual elements, reinforcing the bike’s unique identity.

Power

The TF 450-RC’s 450 cc SACT single-cylinder engine is designed for competition, delivering high power while minimizing weight, which gives it an unmatched power-to-weight ratio in the class.

At the heart of this engine are top-tier components, including a forged Konig aluminum piston, which offers strength and longevity at high speeds, and DelWest titanium valves, which improve airflow and accelerate actuation. The TF 450-RC’s 5-speed gearbox, equipped as standard with a quickshifter allowing clutchless shifts from 2nd to 5th gear, ensures smooth power transmission for maximum track concentration.

The combustion chamber of the 450 cc engine is fully machined to optimize airflow and efficiency. The combustion chamber and 3-axis machined orifices guarantee precise geometry for optimal performance, while diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated rocker arms reduce friction, improving engine efficiency and longevity.

The airbox and intake system of the TF 450-RC provide the engine with a high and constant volume of air, which is essential for performance and efficiency. The intake system is paired with a TwinAir filter, known for its long life and filtration efficiency. Tool-free access to the filter simplifies maintenance in difficult conditions and ensures optimal airflow at all times.

The TF 450-RC is equipped with a state-of-the-art engine management and intake/exhaust system designed to deliver exceptional performance and control. The bike features a Dellorto throttle body integrated with an Athena engine management system, ensuring precise fuel delivery and throttle response. This system allows riders to precisely adjust parameters such as traction control and launch control via the MX Tune Pro smartphone app, providing performance adaptable to different track conditions.

The TF 450-RC features selectable engine maps, including a unique map personalized by Ricky Carmichael to deliver the power and control he demands.

Designed to Win

With its narrow profile, the 450 cc engine presents improved ergonomics that allow riders to have better control and greater comfort. It is protected by magnesium casings to further reduce the weight of the bike. The high-capacity clutch features steel plates designed to meet the demands of racing, ensuring its robustness under intensive use. Hydraulic clutch actuation, with a Brembo master cylinder, ensures smooth and consistent clutch control.

Precision, control, and robustness are at the forefront of the TF 450-RC’s design, particularly with the ODI RC4 Signature handlebars. Manufactured from triple-butted and tapered tubing, these handlebars are designed to offer a perfect balance between strength and flexibility. Constructed from a 2014-T6 seamless alloy and hard anodized for increased durability, the handlebar is equipped with oversized clamps and ODI lock-on grips, ensuring excellent rider comfort, vibration reduction, and impact resistance.

The TF 450-RC’s upper engine mounts were selected by Ricky to improve handling, particularly under heavy front loads. This configuration allows the bike to maintain optimal control and stability, even during the most demanding rides.

The XTrig Holeshot device gives the rider a perfect start by preloading the front suspension, lowering the center of gravity, and reducing front-wheel lift for faster acceleration. The bike is also equipped as standard with a Triumph Racing Hinson clutch cover, a front disc guard to deflect debris and impacts, and a gripper seat cover to reduce slippage and improve rider control. These premium components enhance the TF 450-RC’s overall performance and reliability.

Exhaust System

The TF 450-RC’s exhaust system is designed to complement its high-performance engine. The standard model features a lightweight stainless steel exhaust with an integrated resonator to improve cylinder scavenging, and hydroformed components for optimized routing and high gas flow.

For riders seeking even higher levels of performance, a titanium Akrapovic exhaust is available as an accessory, with a dedicated engine map to optimize engine output. This system ensures that exhaust gases are expelled efficiently, minimizing backpressure and improving engine performance, particularly at high RPM.

An Aluminum Chassis for Competition

The TF 450-RC features a unique aluminum frame designed to offer a perfect balance between performance, mass, and flexibility. The frame’s spine and double cradle offer exceptional strength while minimizing weight, contributing to the bike’s agility and handling. Hand-welded TIG welds ensure durability and precision in every detail.

The frame has been optimized for racing in terms of longitudinal, lateral, and torsional stiffness, ensuring the best performance in extreme conditions. This allows for exceptional handling and provides the rider with feedback and control during intense races. The result is a frame that offers top-tier performance and reliability, designed for competition.
