In 2000, Suzuki decided to transform its TLS, a touring twin, into a genuine competition superbike. They grafted on a GSX-R aesthetic, a massive aluminum twin-spar frame, a sophisticated rotary damper, and six-piston monoblock calipers. The V-twin engine was reworked with two injectors per cylinder, optimized intake tracts, and lighter internal components. The technical specifications state 135 horsepower at 8500 rpm and a torque of 105.9 Nm, figures that, with a few adjustments, could approach 150 hp. Some tuners even extracted nearly 180 horsepower from this engine, but the reality on the track was less glorious.

The problem? Its weight. With 230 kg all fueled up, the Suzuki TLR 1000 was too heavy to be truly agile on a circuit. The possibilities for adjustment were vast, but it never felt completely comfortable in tight corners. That's where its destiny diverged. Outside the paddocks, this machine reveals a much more enchanting character. The front end is remarkably efficient and safe, the traction is excellent, and the engine delivers its power with pleasant progressivity. The weight, still present, is well balanced, making the motorcycle effective and enjoyable on the road. The riding position is sporty but retains a certain comfort, and the wind protection is correct.
However, riding two-up on this Suzuki TLR 1000 becomes a weightlifting session, especially with limited range due to its 17-liter tank. For a price of €10,989 at the time, it offered immense potential and a very endearing road behavior. Today, searching for a used Suzuki TLR 1000 is a pursuit for enthusiasts who value this unique twin engine and robust construction, rather than for pure track riders.
