Overview
Who said that a large roadster had to be a thirsty brute, an untamed track animal tamed for the road? In 2006, as the wind was already turning against hypersports, Suzuki had a clever answer in its catalog: the SV 1000 N. Not a revolution, but a terribly sensible evolution. You take the legendary V2, derived from the TL1000S but softened in its ardor, you install it in a more compact aluminum trellis frame than the S version, you attach a high handlebar and a 81 cm seat, and you get a motorcycle that speaks first to the brain and the gut, not just to the biceps. With its 125 horsepower at 9000 rpm and 98 Nm of torque available early, it doesn’t have the hysterical top speed of a Japanese 4-cylinder. Its strength? Exemplary elasticity, capable of picking up without complaint at 2000 rpm in sixth gear, then propelling you up to 230 km/h with a progressive and enjoyable surge. It is this accessible character, this intrinsic versatility, that makes a used Suzuki SV 1000 N so interesting today.

The magic operates from the first few meters. With a wet weight of 216 kg, it’s not a featherweight, but its low center of gravity and weight distribution give it the maneuverability of a 600. The 46 mm fork and the single shock absorber, once properly adjusted, transform this roadster into a partner tailored for fun. In serious attacks, it tucks in precisely, held by an effective front braking system (two 310 mm discs) that inspires confidence. We are far from the extreme nervousness of an Aprilia Tuono of the time or the gruff character of a Ducati Monster S4R. The SV 1000 N, on the other hand, is the friend who makes you feel like a good rider without ever betraying you. It is this disconcerting ease that emerges in all Suzuki SV 1000 N tests that one can read.
But don't be fooled by this serenity; it’s not boredom. The V2 growls, the chain drive sends the power in a frank manner, and when you call on it, the twin cylinder delivers its torque with a generosity that brings a smile to your face. It is precisely this balance that makes it so versatile: agile in the city despite a turning radius that is not always royal, comfortable for Sunday rides, and capable of muscular sporty sessions for the rest of the weekend. The 17-liter tank offers correct autonomy, even if one would have liked one or two liters more for long journeys.

So, who is it for? Clearly for the motorcyclist who is looking for a large displacement without the hassles, a charismatic engine without the thirst of a 4-cylinder, and a reliable platform. The then new price, around 9200 euros, was a massive argument. Today, a 2006 Suzuki SV 1000 N or models like the SV 1000 N 2004 or 2005 represent a golden opportunity to access this simple and direct pleasure. It forgives, it encourages, it amuses. It may not have the Italian flair or the raw aura of a German, but it possesses this too-rare virtue: joyful efficiency. After a test ride, the question is not "is it fast?", but "why am I already separated from it?".
