Overview
The road is soon over for the M 800 Intruder. Like so many others, regulations will not allow it to continue. Through the twists and turns of legislation, a few 2016 models may still be sold through the dealer network. After that, it will be nothing more than a memory. The market will not care. The Japanese custom sector has not been thriving for a while.
Yet, this machine wanted to make a name for itself. In the "muscle-bike" custom category, you often have a face and a large engine pushing behind. But for those who only want the face without having to manage the large torque and the huge twin that goes with it, what is there? Not much; that’s why Suzuki offered this M 800 Intruder. The recipe: very simple. The same design as the powerful 1 800, with its characteristic headstock. It is a little softer on the 800, less bulky but still surprising with its trapezoidal headlight encased in a substantial fairing. Add an inverted fork, plenty of chrome, and you get a machine that turns heads. But where everything changes is in the technology. With 1000 cm3 less, 80 kg of weight reduction and more than 70 horsepower difference, the little Intruder plays in a whole different league. Its thing is the parade, the accessibility, the showing off without having to deal with the character of a big monster. Delivering 53 horsepower, the liquid-cooled twin is equipped with dual butterfly injection to optimize its filling. It will take you pretty much everywhere but don't ask it to burn rubber at the traffic light. With the exception of the fork and the wheels, the frame is that of the cousin C 800. A classic double cradle tubular steel frame. In terms of price, a world separates the 2 protagonists of the muscle custom: nearly 6,000 euros less to afford the 800 and the famous futuro-classic silhouette of the VZR. If you are hesitating and looking for a compromise, there is also an intermediate: the C 1500 T Intruder, but in a whole different category.
