Overview
Harley that forgets chrome for a coat of paint? That's a surprise. The XG 750 Street Rod Freedom Edition is first and foremost a statement of intent, a snub to tradition. Imagine the situation: you have a base, the Street Rod, this little American with a Revolution X engine manufactured… in India. It delivers 70 horsepower and 65.7 Nm of torque, figures that place it in the class of mid-range roadsters, facing a Yamaha MT-07, for example. But where the Japanese model plays the card of pure efficiency, Harley-Davidson Japan decided to make it a blank canvas.

They entrusted ten copies, and ten only, to the Japanese workshop GraphersRock. The result? A rolling work of art. Exit the classic varnish, place for a manual graphic explosion on the tank, a true work of mechanical calligraphy where the technical specifications are even displayed. It’s bold, almost provocative for the Milwaukee brand. But that’s also where the shoe pinches: beneath this artist's skin beats the same heart. No technical modification, no performance gain, the same steel frame and the same 43 mm inverted fork. For nearly one million yen, you are buying exclusivity, not an improvement.
So, who rides this Freedom Edition? Certainly not the adventurer looking for versatility, nor the track rider seeking raw sensations. With a 13-liter tank and a stated weight of 238 kg fully fueled, it is not made for long raids. No, its target is the enlightened collector, the urban aesthete for whom a motorcycle is an object of dialogue before being a means of transportation. It’s a signed street-art piece, a curiosity that is worth more for its history than for its dynamic capabilities.
Facing hyper-rationalized European and Japanese competition, this Harley plays a completely different game. It doesn’t claim to be the most agile, the fastest, or the most economical. It asserts that a motorcycle can be a medium. Is it a good motorcycle? Absolutely, the base Street Rod is already a model with an aggressive geometry and a nervous behavior, much more suited to corners than its larger sisters. But this limited edition, it is judged with the eyes. It’s a brushstroke on steel, an attempt to bring the custom tradition into the era of the limited drop. Successful? Brilliantly. Essential? Only ten owners in Japan will have to decide the question.
