Overview
Fast touring has long taken another form than the Sport-GTs of the great era. The GSX-F, ZZR, VFR, Sprint ST/GT or other Futura and ST4 are nothing more than memories. Trail-GTs have taken over, without mercy.
Suzuki is not satisfied with this situation and offers its GSX-S1000GT to maintain a presence in this niche of road TGV. And as touring rhymes with luggage, this hurried roadster earns the + suffix, synonymous with equipment better suited to spending the weekend away from home.
First, luggage. An essential duo, to the point that the GSX-S1000GT is sold only with its luggage in some countries. They occupy a space of 36 liters each, for an effective capacity of 26 liters. To put it simply, you can fit a full-face helmet, a phone and a Big Mac (especially since they have become as thick as a washcloth...). The storage compartments should weigh a dozen kilos on the hips; plus the maximum 5 kilos that can be accommodated in each of them.
Another essential element, which Suzuki should equip as standard: heated grips. They are adjustable on three levels of intensity, and are a sublime companion when the biting wind comes. Finally, touring means long stages and hundreds of kms – comfortable saddles will better preserve posteriors, while adding a touch of class with their topstitching.
This + pack costs 999 euros extra, or half the normal price. Basically, Suzuki charges you for the luggage and gives you everything else. This will strengthen the predispositions raised by the name of this motorcycle and, by the same token, give it a little boost.
Let's quickly recall the attributes of this GSX-S1000GT +, with 152 horsepower, a chassis derived from a previous generation of GSX-R 1000, Brembo brakes and abundant and reasonable electronics: 6.5-inch color TFT screen, Bluetooth, USB socket, traction control, ABS, quickshifter, cruise control, 3 Riding Modes, Easy Start system and Low RPM Assist.
It’s a shame the machine didn’t also recover a Touring screen. We won't seek to know the justification for semi-active or not suspensions – the manufacturer reserves them for its crossover GSX-S1000GX. Incidentally, he too is available with the + pack.
