Overview
Who still remembers the era when Suzuki ruled the accessible roadster segment with its Bandit? In 2011, the GSF 1250 N returns with a cosmetic refresh inherited from the smaller 650, without touching the mechanicals or the machine's philosophy. The historic round headlight gives way to a sleeker unit, the dashboard gets a facelift, the air scoops and exhaust receive a nip and tuck. On paper, it's a simple dust-off. In reality, that's exactly what it is: a fresh coat of paint on a canvas that's starting to show its age, but which retains a certain bourgeois charm.

Beneath the 19-liter tank, the 1255 cc inline four-cylinder hasn't changed one bit. It produces 98 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and, more importantly, 107.9 Nm of torque from just 3,700 rpm. It's this low-end generosity that defines the Bandit 1250's character. No need to chase the revs to get moving — the engine pulls hard and early, with a smoothness that will appeal to daily riders. We're far from the edginess of a Kawasaki Z1000 or the explosiveness of a Yamaha FZ1. The Suzuki plays a different tune, one of mechanical refinement and ever-ready availability. The six-speed gearbox does its job without fanfare, and the chain drive remains conventional. Nothing surprising, nothing disappointing either.
The tubular steel frame, 43 mm telescopic hydraulic fork, and rear monoshock make up an honest chassis with no sporting pretensions. At 247 kg wet, the GSF 1250 N carries its weight and makes no attempt to hide it. In the city, that heft makes itself felt during low-speed maneuvers. On A-roads or highways, stability takes over and the machine becomes a rather pleasant conveyor belt. The seat, perched at 810 mm, remains accessible to most body types. Braking is handled by two 310 mm front discs with four-piston calipers, delivering adequate stopping power, even though ABS was only offered as an option on this model year. A questionable choice when the competition was already making it standard.
Up against a sharper Yamaha FZ1 or a decidedly more aggressive Kawasaki Z1000, the Bandit 1250 cultivates its position as a do-it-all motorcycle with no particular flavor. It doesn't try to impress — it tries to serve. Its price of 7,649 euros placed it in 2011 among the most reasonable offerings in the large roadster segment. And that's precisely where its main selling point lies: the value-for-money ratio. For a rider who wants a reliable big-bore bike capable of racking up miles without drama, the GSF 1250 ticks the boxes without stirring the soul.
This Suzuki is clearly aimed at easygoing tourers, at experienced riders who prioritize pragmatism over thrills. It also makes a good motorcycle for a freshly earned A license, provided you don't expect excitement it never promised. The 2011 Bandit 1250 is the diesel sedan of the motorcycle world: it takes you everywhere, never breaks down, and nobody turns their head as you ride by. Depending on your priorities, that's either a quality or a deal-breaker.
