Six years. It took Suzuki six years to transform a mind-blowing concept into a production machine. In 2001, the B-King prototype landed at the Tokyo Motor Show with a supercharger bolted onto the most ferocious engine of the time and a face chiseled with sharp lines. The public went wild, the press went into overdrive, then silence. Until 2007, the year the Suzuki B-King 1300 finally hit dealerships, ready to tear up the tarmac.

The production version lost the prototype's supercharger, that's true. The headlight was toned down, the handlebars took on more civilized proportions. But make no mistake: beneath that bodywork with its massive shoulders, greedy air scoops, and a tail section split by two sculptural exhaust outlets, the temperament remains volcanic. The aluminum twin-spar frame houses an inline four-cylinder displacing 1340 cc, directly derived from the 2008-spec Hayabusa engine. The 43 mm inverted fork comes from the GSX-R 1000, and the swingarm could support a highway overpass. Suzuki didn't cobble together a streetfighter from leftover parts: every component breathes high-end engineering.
The spec sheet figures for the Suzuki B-King 1300 are staggering. 182 horsepower at 9,500 rpm, 146 Nm of torque at 7,200 rpm. For a naked bike. For comparison, the BMW K 1200 R, considered at the time to be madness on two wheels, topped out at 163 horsepower. The B-King slaps an extra twenty horses in its face without flinching. With a 12.5:1 compression ratio and an oversquare 81 x 65 mm bore and stroke, this engine loves to rev but also delivers massive torque from the midrange onward. Roll-on acceleration is simply devastating. A 200/50-17 rear tire attempts to put all that torque to the ground, backed by radial-mount braking with twin 310 mm discs and four-piston calipers. The setup is serious — it needs to be.
On the scales, the 255 kg wet weight betrays the sheer bulk of the beast. The seat perched at 805 mm and the 16.5-liter tank are reminders that the Suzuki B-King 1300 wasn't designed to gobble up back roads in touring mode. It's a machine with character, built for the experienced rider who wants raw sensation on the open road without resorting to a full fairing. Beginners should look elsewhere, and that's just as well. At a launch price of €13,699, it sat in the upper bracket of overpowered naked bikes, but the performance-to-price ratio remained fair given the sheer amount of technology on board.
Today, a used Suzuki B-King 1300 can be found at far more affordable prices, and that may be where this machine truly comes into its own. Produced over a short period, it was never a resounding commercial success. Too extreme for fans of mild-mannered nakeds, not track-focused enough for lap-time addicts. Yet with its unapologetically brutish character and legendary engine, it remains one of the most memorable naked bikes of its generation. Aftermarket specialists like Ermax still offer parts for the Suzuki B-King 1300, proof that a loyal community keeps the flame alive. What's the going rate for a 2009 Suzuki B-King 1300 on today's market? Expect to pay between €5,000 and €8,000 depending on condition and mileage. For 182 horsepower and a Hayabusa engine, that's practically a bargain.
