Overview
One million. The number is round, it snaps, and Suzuki decided to inscribe it in stone with a limited series that bears this number like a trophy. Twenty-seven years after the birth of the first GSX-R, the Hamamatsu brand has sold one million units of its most iconic sports lineage. This is a longevity that few manufacturers can claim in such a demanding segment, where the Yamaha R1 and Honda CBR-RR compete for every square centimeter of the podium.

Technically, do not look for a revolution under the fairings. The inline four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 999 cc produces 185 horsepower at 11,500 rpm, the torque peaks at 116.7 Nm at 10,000 rpm, and the beast accelerates to 300 km/h from a weight of 203 kg fully fueled. The compression ratio of 12.9:1 and the six-speed gearbox are those of the standard version. No ABS, no sophisticated traction control, just the S-DMS to modulate the engine mapping. In 2013, other machines already offer more sophisticated electronics; the GSX-R embraces its raw character, almost old-school in its approach.
What distinguishes this edition of the 1985 numbered units is its commemorative DNA. The number 1985 is not chosen at random: it is the year of the commercial launch of the very first GSX-R, that motorcycle which redefined the production superbike category. The engraved plate on the fork tube bears witness to this, and the livery is directly inspired by the founding model of the saga. The Showa BPF fork appears in gold, the four-piston Brembo radial calipers are painted black, the rims feature that characteristic white of the brand's sportbikes. The forced induction intakes are tinted red, a direct nod to the SRAD system, the Suzuki Ram Air Direct which had so marked the spirits that the GSX-R 750 of the time bore this nickname throughout the community.
The French market benefits from an additional privilege: the 199 units destined for the Hexagone receive a Yoshimura R77J titanium exhaust. A component that lightens the machine, noticeably changes the sound and partly justifies the price positioning at 14,599 euros, a significant premium over the series version. The 810 mm seat height and the 17.5-liter fuel tank place this GSX-R in the purely track-focused register, not really designed for urban daily use or for long touring.
This "One Million" is unequivocally aimed at the passionate collector or amateur circuit rider who wants to ride a limited-edition object. It does not advance the technology, it celebrates a history. And in this specific role, it does so with a real aesthetic coherence, without falling into easy folklore. However, for the same budget, the Japanese competitors offer more on-board electronics. The choice will therefore be made on the soul rather than on the specification sheet.
