Overview

Fifteen years. It took BMW fifteen years to clinch this Superbike World Championship title that at times seemed like a mirage. And it was Toprak Razgatlioglu, the Turk with the flamboyant riding style, who finally sealed the deal. To celebrate this historic victory, Munich is rolling out the heavy artillery with the BMW M 1000 RR WSBK Champion Edition, a limited run of 54 units priced at 54,000 euros each. That's roughly 50% more than a standard M 1000 RR. The price of a coronation, so to speak.

BMW M 1000 RR WSBK Champion Edition

The recipe is familiar but effective: take the sharpest superbike in the Bavarian catalog and dress it in the exact livery of the race machine. Official color scheme, sponsor logos, number 54 stamped on the front fairing. The result is striking. You'd swear you were looking at Razgatlioglu's bike rolling out of pit lane, with a pair of mirrors as the only concession to road use. Beneath the ceremonial bodywork, the 999 cc inline four-cylinder retains its 212 horsepower at 14,500 rpm and 112.8 Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm. The 13.5:1 compression ratio and ultra-short stroke of 80 x 49.7 mm are a reminder that this engine was born to scream at the top of the rev range. At 192 kg wet and a claimed top speed of 314 km/h, we're swimming in deep waters—waters where only the Ducati Panigale V4 R and Kawasaki ZX-10RR dare to venture.

What truly sets this Champion Edition apart from the standard M 1000 RR is the carbon package included as standard: license plate holder, frame protectors, swingarm and clutch cover guards, tail cowl, and upper tank panel. The latter bears Razgatlioglu's handwritten signature, sealed beneath a layer of clear coat. Each buyer also receives a GPS lap timer Lap-trigger unit and, most importantly, a voucher to collect an Akrapovic Evolution-Line titanium exhaust system. Reserved for track use only, this exhaust frees up roughly ten extra horsepower in the midrange and pushes peak torque to 121 Nm, while shaving 6.7 kg off the scales. Enough to make the 170 kg dry weight feel even more eager beneath the rider. State-of-the-art electronics, inherited from the racing program, keep everything on the rails.

Given the confidential production run, two units are already spoken for. Number 01/54 naturally goes to the champion himself. Number 54/54 will head to the BMW museum. That leaves 52 units, officially reserved for the German market, although Munich hints that a sufficiently determined buyer could secure an additional example on a case-by-case basis. A certificate of authenticity signed by Markus Flasch, head of BMW Motorrad, accompanies each machine. Cherry on top: a meet-and-greet with Razgatlioglu is included in the price.

BMW M 1000 RR WSBK Champion Edition

Who is this M 1000 RR Champion Edition aimed at? Not the weekend rider, nor the young A2 license holder chasing thrills. It's a collector's item as much as a track weapon, built for the well-heeled enthusiast who wants to own a piece of Superbike history. Against a Panigale V4 SP2 or an R1 GYTR, BMW is playing a different card here: the emotion tied to a hard-won world title. The price tag is steep, availability virtually nonexistent. But that's precisely what makes it desirable.
