Overview

The wait is long, like the promises of a capricious countess. It was announced for 2023... The diva will arrive in 2024. But what an arrival! It’s a breath of fire that settles into the neo-retro category. By combining power, audacity, luxury, and demanding performance, MV-Agusta delivers an alluring Superveloce 1000 Oro. Menacing and timeless, refined and violent, noble and mischievous, this sportbike is sure to awaken all the senses.

It’s been a long time since the brand from Varese has mastered desire. The masterful and design stroke of the first Superveloce finds here a wilder expression. The style line reprises the theme of the 800 but with more pronounced effects, a less subtle presence, less svelte, more reinforced. This tougher look is motivated by the addition of winglets, a denser fairing, more massive air intakes, a spaceship-like rear fairing, and retinas-searing exhausts.

It’s a work of beauty, although less delicate than the average Superveloce. Regarding the engine, MV has taken what it had best: the 1000 Brutale’s unit. Its 4-cylinder is one of the most powerful to date. Delivering 208 horsepower at 13,000 rpm, it’s more powerful than a ZX-10R or R1. The torque is muscular, with 11.9 kg-m, but it needs to be reached high in the rev range, at 11,000 rpm. If the desire to add a few horsepower tempts you, the race kit allows you to increase the output to 212 horsepower.

The chassis is also largely borrowed from the Brutale roadster, with a few adaptations. First, a different weight distribution. Then, magnificent and unprecedented forged aluminum wheels. The mix of star and spoke patterns gives a surreal cachet. For the main structure, the roadster elements are so robust that their retention is as is. With the unbeatable signature house for the frame: lateral plates in aluminum holding a tubular steel trellis. The superb aluminum single-sided swingarm is a proud concert, with the bonus of being fixed on an adjustable pivot. A set of shims allows you to modify the height by + or – 4 mm. As for the suspension, the 1000 Superveloce only trusts the high-end. The 43 mm inverted fork and the TTX shock absorber come from Öhlins and are mainly managed by the Smart EC 2.0 electronics. This adjusts compression and rebound; only the preload is done manually. Between the tank and the fork headstock is another Öhlins shock absorber, for the steering.

This powerful Veloce allows the brand to revive one of the most beautiful expressions of the F4 dynasty: its under-seat exhausts. This arrangement is here reinterpreted, with proud Arrow titanium flutes placed under the buttocks and around the neo-classic round rear light. Provocative to the limit of eroticism. Italian sportbikes have always been proud of their underbelly.

As you can see, it bends to the dictate of the wing fashion. But…. MV-Agusta doesn’t see it that way. Symbolically, the firm’s communication recalls that the MV 500 of 1972 inaugurated this type of aerodynamic wings in Grand Prix racing. More concretely, the work has been as much about the shape as the function. MV wants to be beautiful right to the tips of the winglets, while offering more than 39 kg of front downforce at 320 km/h thanks to the entire aerodynamic job.

The 320 mm discs are covered with carbon flanges, evoking the brake drums of a distant era. A low opening channels the airflow to cool the Brembo calipers. Beautifully crafted as it should be, namely 4-piston radial-mounted Stylema monoblock calipers. The tires are in tune with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4, developed specifically for the 1000 Superveloce.

The Superveloce 1000 is introduced in Oro version. A saga perpetuated since the F4 750, where some new members of the family begin with the exception. Oro is synonymous with golden elements (plates, swingarm, wheels), limited series, certificate of authenticity, complete race kit, a totally carbon fiber fairing (except for the tank but more than forty parts are made from this material) and a staggering price. The Italian is full of beautiful parts; but there was a time when the Oro included magnesium elements for the wheels, the frame and the swingarm. The buyer of this sublime machine will also receive a beautiful box containing a specific cover, a passenger seat in leather and Alcantara, passenger footrests and their carbon fiber heel guards, milled nanocellulose brake and clutch levers, and shims to adjust the swingarm height.

Contrary to what its technical specifications suggest, this machine is not extreme to the end. The riding position does not lean towards the radical, as a track bike would claim. Given the position of the demi-handlebars, it looks sporty but not racing. The adjustable footrest plates will even allow you to find a position close to a Spartan comfort.

Powerful in horsepower and style, this motorcycle is just as powerful in electronics. Its 5.5-inch TFT color screen allows you to parameterize everything, and to communicate with a smartphone to make adjustments from the MV Ride app as well. The latter also allows you to manage navigation, route recording, transfer of internal data to the motorcycle and the Mobisat geolocation system. For those who dare to ride at night, the switches are backlit. Enthusiasts of piloting and electronics will have plenty to appreciate the engine maps of the ECU, the operation of the Up&Down shifter and the cornering ABS specific to the 1000 Superveloce. As well as the 8-level traction control and wheelie control, the sensitivity to the inertial unit, the 4 Riding Modes, the launch control and the cruise control.

Once again, MV-Agusta tutors the sublime. Its new Superveloce 1000 Oro strikes into a new segment; the neo-retro hypersport. Subtly sketched by the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, this environment with a timeless charm and very vigorous power welcomes particularly tasty Italian blood. Like all MV-Agusta ORO series, the Superveloce 1000 will be rare and (very) expensive. 500 units will be offered, at a price close to €70,000.
